29mm Wide-angle 5x Optical Zoom LEICA DC Lens
![]()
The DMC-FS25/FS15 features a 29mm wide-angle* 5x optional zoom f/3.3-5.9 LEICA DC VARIO-ELMAR lens (35mm film camera equivalent: 29-145mm) with a slim, compact body. The lens unit comprises 7 elements in 6 groups, including 3 aspherical lenses / 4 aspherical surfaces to achieve high optical performance while maintaining compactness. Naturally, the lens meets LEICA's stringent standards. This high-quality lens combines high brightness and minimal distortion to capture 29mm wide-angle photos* with outstanding, corner-to-corner detail.
* Converted to standard 35mm film camera equivalent, at the maximum wide position.
Advantages of the 29mm Wide-angle Lens*

The 29mm wide-angle lens* lets you easily capture large groups of people indoors or expansive architectural structures and scenes with dynamic width and rich perspective, even from short distances.

The entire structure in the background fits in, even when taken from a short distance.
Landscapes spread far and wide from the window.

5x Optical Zoom and Up to 9.8x Extra Optical Zoom*1
![]()
The DMC-FS25/FS15 is equipped with a 5x optical zoom lens (35mm film camera equivalent: 29-145mm). The Extra Optical Zoom function uses the center part of the CCD to extend this 5x zoom ratio to powerful 9.8x zoom (35mm film camera equivalent: 284mm) at a resolution of 3-megapixel or less. Adding the Extra Optical Zoom to the 4x digital zoom*2 extends the total zooming power to a maximum of 39.1x.
*1 At a resolution of 3-megapixel or less. In the U.S.A. market, the Extra Optical Zoom is called the Extended Optical Zoom.
*2 As digital magnification increases, resolution significantly decreases.
1/2.33-inch 12.1-megapixel High-resolution CCD

The DMC-FS25/FS15 features a 1/2.33-inch CCD with effective 12.1-megapixel high-resolution.
What You Get with 12.1-megapixel Resolution
Images remain clear and sharp even when they are enlarged to A2 size (594 x 420 mm). An A2 photo is large enough to show a newborn baby or the head and chest of an adult in actual size. Photos in ordinary sizes (127 mm x 89 mm or 178 mm x 127 mm) come out beautifully at 3 megapixels. You can trim the photos any way you want.

Even 8-megapixel resolution provides sufficiently high-quality photos.

Trimming half of the image produces 6-megapixel resolution.

Trimming down to 1/4 of the image still results in 3-megapixel resolution, which is plenty for ordinary 4" x 6" prints.
Venus Engine IV

The image-processing engine, Venus Engine IV, uses advanced signal processing to give you beautiful images even when the sensitivity is high. Multi-task signal processing is employed for all images to enable high-speed, high-performance shooting. Venus Engine IV also effectively raises the precision of various functions, such as MEGA O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) and Intelligent ISO Control. Along with its extremely high performance, Venus Engine IV reduces power consumption thanks to a number of energy efficiency improvements.
Higher Image Quality with Advanced Signal Processing
Luminance noise and chromatic noise are reduced separately in the Venus Engine III. In addition, the Venus Engine IV enhances this detection by effectively reducing highly noticeable low-frequency chromatic noise in advance, while delicately applying noise reduction (NR) processing to detailed areas to prevent the color bleeding that often happens when NR is used. As a result, beautiful images with minimal noise can be reproduced all the way up to ISO 1600 high sensitivity at full resolution while color noise is less noticeable in shadows and other dark areas even when shooting with low sensitivity.

Quick Startup Time - Approx. 1.2 sec
![]()
The DMC-FS25/FS15 slashes the release time lag to around 0.006 second minimum. This makes DMC-FS25/FS15 an extremely quick, responsive camera. It lets you capture images comfortably even at a moment's notice and is a pleasure to use. In addition, the startup time is shortened to approx. 1.2 seconds, which is 0.5 second faster than our previous model*. This makes sure you won't miss sudden shooting opportunities.

MEGA Burst Consecutive Shooting in Full Resolution
The DMC-FS25/FS15 lets you snap off consecutive shots at approx. 1.8 frames per second*1 in full resolution. The Unlimited*2 Consecutive Shooting function lets you keep on shooting until the memory card is full. You can take a series of shots, then choose the one you like best and delete the rest. You can also select High-speed Burst Mode*3 or Flash Burst Mode*3 from Scene Mode.
*1 Maximum of 5 images in Standard mode and 3 images in Fine mode.
*2 The consecutive shooting speed varies depending on the memory card. The number of recordable picture depends on the memory card size, battery life, picture size, and compression.
*3 In 3-megapixel (4:3), 2.5-megapixel (3:2), 2-megapixel (16:9) recording.
* The burst speed values given above apply when the shutter speed is 1/60 or faster and when the flash is not activated. The number of recordable picture depends on the memory card size and battery life. The burst speed is constant regardless of the transfer speed of the card.
* The number of recordable picture depends on the memory card size and battery life.
Low Energy Consumption – Around 330 Shots on a Single Battery Charge
![]()

While batteries become smaller to fit into slimmer camera bodies, power consumption continues to grow from more and more camera functions. The DMC-FS25/FS15 achieves long-life operation of around 330 shots on a single battery charge by using new ICs, redesigning circuits, and employing the energy-saving Venus Engine IV image-processing engine. These improvements work together with an efficient, rechargeable lithium-ion battery to extend the shooting time.
* Based on the CIPA standard.
ID–Security Li-ion Battery
