230,000-dot Intelligent LCD and High-angle Mode

Intelligent LCD

The 2.5" LCD has a total of 230,000 dots for high resolution. The DMC-FS5/FS3 features the Intelligent LCD function. Under bright sunlight, the Auto Power LCD function increases the backlight brightness in nine steps according to the ambient light intensity. In dimly lit locations, it adjusts the frame rate of live images in two steps according to the ambient darkness. At the highest of these 11 steps, the LCD backlight becomes maximum 1.4 times brighter than normal. This makes both shooting and viewing photos easier and more convenient.

High-angle Mode

The High-angle Mode makes the display extremely easy to view from a low angle, for example, when taking photos by raising your hand upward to capture the subject over the crowd.

The number of AF areas has been increased to nine. The camera automatically determines the most appropriate AF area from the nine points. This ensures accurate focusing even for difficult compositions. You can also select the AF setting from three patterns -- Face AF, 1-area high-speed AF and 1-area AF -- according to your shooting situation. Plus, Quick AF makes sure you won't miss those sudden shooting opportunities.

Scene Mode

Versatile Scene Modes are great LUMIX feature. And the Scene Mode list display makes them even easier to find. Choose the High Sensitivity Mode for shooting in almost complete darkness and High-speed Burst Mode for burst shooting at approx. 6 frames per second (DMC-FS5) / approx. 7 frames per second (DMC-FS3) as well as modes like Sunset, Scenery and Pet, from a total of 21 scene mode in all to ensure beautiful results from any situation and any subject. Animated moving icons help you to make selections and set parameters, so anyone can take beautiful pictures.

High-speed Burst Mode* New

The DMC-FS5/FS3 can fire off up to approx. 6 frames per second (DMC-FS5) / approx. 7 frames per second (DMC-FS3) in High-speed Burst Mode. This is great for capturing fast-moving sports or racing scenes. You can take a series of shots, then choose the one you like best and delete the rest.**
(Note that the focus and exposure are fixed at the first frame.)

* In 2-megapixel (4:3), 2.5-megapixel (3:2), 2-megapixel (16:9) recording.
** The consecutive shooting speed varies depending on the memory card. The number of recordable picture depends on the memory card size, battery life, picture size, and compression.

Maximum ISO 6400 in High Sensitivity Mode* New

The maximum sensitivity in High Sensitivity Mode has been increased to ISO 6400. This lets you shoot in nearly total darkness. In addition, when using High Sensitivity Mode, the built-in flash reaches as far as approx. 13.5m(DMC-FS5) / approx. 16m(DMC-FS3), letting you capture clear images even in dim lighting.

* In 3-megapixel (4:3), 2.5-megapixel (3:2), 2-megapixel (16:9) recording.
* Resolution significantly decreases in High Sensitivity mode.

Focusing Distance Display

New

The allowable shooting range is displayed above the zoom bar. This lets you readjust the distance between the camera and the subject, or switch to Macro Mode to shoot sharp, clear pictures.The measurements can be selected from either the foot or the meter.

Making Operation Even Easier

1. Easy to select – Rec / Playback Modes

The DMC-FS5/FS3 incorporates a new REC/PLAYBACK mode switch. This helps the photographer to instantly switch between record and play modes, and to always know which mode the camera is in.

Demo Mode

New

The new Demo Mode provides an easy-to-understand slideshow of the DMC-FS5/FS3 functions, such as the effects of the 30mm wide-angle lens* and the functions included in iA mode.

Built-in Memory approx. 50MB

Take photos even when you don't have an SDHC/SD Memory Card on hand. Just use the built-in memory, then copy the data to an SDHC/SD card or PC later. You can also copy images from a memory card or PC to the built-in memory, and view them on the LCD anytime you like. Plus, the built-in memory capacity has been increased to approx. 50 MB. In addition to providing extra memory when your memory card fills up, this is a great place to store your favorite photos so you can view them anytime you want.

Number of Recordable and Storable Photos

Marine Case Compatible

The DMC-FS5/FS3 is compatible with the optional marine case. This case will protect your LUMIX camera all the way to a depth of 40 meters. It lets you take clear, beautiful photos underwater.
