Venus Engine IV

An image-processing engine, Venus Engine IV, uses advanced signal processing to give you beautiful images even when the sensitivity is high. Multi-task signal processing is employed for all images to enable high-speed, high-performance shooting.
Venus Engine IV also effectively raises the precision of various functions, such as MEGA O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) and Intelligent ISO Control.
Along with its extremely high performance, Venus Engine IV reduces power consumption thanks to a number of energy efficiency improvements.
Higher Image Quality with Advanced Signal Processing
Luminance noise and chromatic noise are reduced separately in the Venus Engine III, before and after signal processing. Both fine and coarse noise are minimized to produce beautiful, clear pictures from low to high ISO settings. The Venus Engine IV in the DMC-FX150(FX180) further raises image quality by refining this signal processing process with two new circuits. One is for separating the noise two-dimensionally into high-frequency and low-frequency noises. The circuits effectively reduce only the low-frequency noise which turns out to be noticeable as chromatic noise because resolution decreases if the high-frequency noise is reduced as well. In addition, preserving the color-changing points at the color borders 10 times more minutely prevents the color bleeding that often happens with noise reduction. As a result, beautiful images with minimal noise can be reproduced all the way up to ISO 1600 high sensitivity at full 14.7-megapixel ultra-high-resolution while color noise is less noticeable in shadows and other dark areas even when shooting with low sensitivity.

High Speed Response

The DMC-FX150(FX180) slashes the release time lag to around 0.005 second minimum, which is considerably less than the 0.009 second of our previous model*. This makes the DMC-FX150(FX180) an extremely quick, responsive camera. It lets you capture beautiful, 14.7-megapixel ultra-high-resolution images comfortably even at a moment's notice and is a pleasure to use for recording active children and pets, as well as sports scenes.
* The time required for shooting to start after pressing the shutter button from the half-pressed position.
Full Resolution MEGA Burst Consecutive Shooting
Unlimited* Consecutive Shooting and High-speed Burst Mode **
In spite of its high 14.7-megapixel ultra-high-resolution, the DMC-FX150(FX180) lets you snap off consecutive shooting at approx. 2 frames per second*** with full resolution. By using the Scene Mode's High-speed Burst setting, you can enjoy extremely fast consecutive shooting of up to approx. 7 frames per second at 3-megapixel resolution in Speed-priority Mode.** The Unlimited* Consecutive Shooting function lets you keep on shooting until the memory card is full. You can take a series of shots, then choose the one you like best and delete the rest.
* The consecutive shooting speed varies depending on the memory card. The number of recordable picture depends on the memory card size, battery life, picture size, and compression.
** In 3-megapixel (4:3), 2.5-megapixel (3:2), 2-megapixel (16:9) recording.
*** Maximum of 8 images in Standard mode and 4 images in Fine mode.
Low Energy Consumption
The energy-saving Venus Engine IV image-processing engine and our efficient, rechargeable lithium-ion battery work together to extend the shooting time of the DMC-FX150(FX180), making it possible to take around 330 shots on a single battery charge* despite the large, bright LCD.
*Based on the CIPA standard.
*Product number varies depending on the sales area (DMC-FX150 or DMC-FX180).
*Availability of models and colors may differ depending on the country.
