A 1/1.72-inch 14.7-megapixel CCD
![]()

The DMC-FX150(FX180) features a 1/1.72" CCD with ultra-high, 14.7-megapixel resolution. It ushers in a new world of photographic quality by capturing high-resolution, distortion-free images with the 28mm* wide-angle LEICA DC VARIO-ELMARIT lens, and sending that rich image information to its large, ultra-high-pixel CCD. This new camera renders every image — from delicate flower petals and individual leaves to the lustrous hair and smooth skin of your loved ones — in glamorous, exquisite, and sharp detail.

The 28mm Wide-angle f/2.8 LEICA DC VARIO-ELMARIT Lens

The DMC-FX150(FX180) features the f/2.8 LEICA DC VARIO-ELMARIT lens. Advanced optical technology accurately delivers the light received by this 28mm* wide-angle lens to the large 1/1.72” CCD with 14.7-megapixel resolution. This lens unit, which comprises 7 elements in 6 groups, including an EA(extra-high refractive index aspherical) lens and 4 lenses with 5 aspherical surfaces, is designed and manufactured to LEICA's stringent standards. This advanced lens design ensures that the images sent to the CCD are high in resolution, low in distortion, and clear from corner to corner. It maximizes both performance and compactness.
The Advantages of the 28mm Wide-angle Shot

Everyone fits into a single shot.
The 28mm wide-angle lens* can be used to capture groups of people at parties and other indoor scenes, as well as magnificent architectural structures and landscapes. It adds convenience to all shooting situations.

The 28mm wide-angle lens* is convenient for shooting expansive structure.

Even self-portraits are easy to take, complete with backgrounds.

3.6x Optical Zoom and 7.7x Extra Optical Zoom
![]()

The DMC-FX150(FX180) is equipped with a 3.6x optical zoom lens (35mm equivalent: 100mm). The Extra Optical Zoom* function uses the center part of the CCD to extend this 3.6x zoom ratio to powerful 7.7x zoom (35mm equivalent: 215.6mm) at a resolution of 3-megapixel or less. Adding the Extra Optical Zoom to the 4x digital zoom** extends the total zooming power to a maximum of 30.8x (35mm equivalent: 862mm).
*In the U.S.A. market, the Extra Optical Zoom is called the Extended Optical Zoom.
**As digital magnification increases, resolution significantly decreases.
Handy Zoom Functions
Easy Zoom Function

The Easy Zoom function makes zoom shots fast and easy. Even when the zoom is set to a position lower than 3.6x, the first press of the Easy Zoom button immediately gives you the maximum 3.6x power of the optical zoom. A second press delivers the maximum 7.7x power of the Extra Optical Zoom.* This lets you bring your subject right up close, easily and comfortably.

*If the resolution is set to a level higher than 3-megapixel, the camera will automatically change it to 3-megapixel. Pressing the button a third time will return the lens to the wide-end (1x) position, and reset the resolution to the ordinary level. If the resolution is set to 3-megapixel or less, the image will be taken at the set level.
Focusing Distance Display

The allowable shooting range is displayed above the zoom bar. This lets you readjust the distance between the camera and the subject, or switch to Macro Mode to shoot sharp, clear pictures. The measurement unit can be selected from either feet or meters.

Clear, beautiful images all the way up to A2 size
Images remain clear and sharp even when they are enlarged to A2 size (594 mm x 420 mm). An A2 photo is large enough to show a newborn baby or the head and chest of an adult in actual size. Details like skin texture and delicate strands of hair are expressed in all their natural beauty.
High resolution for easy and versatile trimming
The large number of pixels means that you can trim the image in any way you want, and enlarge the face of a subject taken at a distance. Even when enlarging a small part of the shot, the large pixel count ensures high image quality in the trimmed photo.
The 14.7-megapixel resolution of the DMC-FX150(FX180) lets you output photos in A4 size (297 mm x 210 mm) with image quality that rivals the 350-dpi resolution of commercially printed materials. Photos in ordinary sizes (127 mm x 89 mm or 178 mm x 127 mm) come out beautifully at 3 megapixels. You can trim the photos any way you want.
