2.5-inch 230,000-dot High-resolution LCD

The DMC-FX48(FX40)'s 2.5-inch LCD features a high 230,000-dot resolution, and a wide viewing angle that lets you frame your shot in a variety of ways for both shooting and viewing. LUMIX's acclaimed Intelligent LCD function also automatically adjusts the brightness in 11 steps according to shooting conditions. This LCD provides sharp, clear images in virtually all shooting situations, ranging from nighttime to bright daylight scenes and from low-angle to high-angle shooting. And it lets you share the fun of viewing images with family and friends.

Wide-viewing Angle

Intelligent LCD - Automatic Brightness Control in 11 Steps

The DMC-FX48(FX40) features the Intelligent LCD. The Auto Power LCD function adjusts the backlight brightness in 11 steps according to the ambient light intensity. At the highest of these 11 steps, the LCD backlight becomes approx. 1.4 times brighter than normal. This makes both shooting and viewing photos easier and more convenient.

Scene Mode

The Scene Mode function lets the camera make the optimal settings for you automatically, so anybody can take superb photos with ease. The versatile Scene Mode range, which handles just about any situation and subject type, is a major LUMIX feature. And to make it even simpler to use, the icons and display are designed for easy visibility.

DMC-FX48(FX40) Scene Modes

High-speed Burst Mode

Advanced

The DMC-FX48(FX40) lets you choose Speed Priority or Image Priority. In Speed Priority Mode, it can fire off up to approximately 10 frames per second with 3-megapixel resolution, which is highly sufficient for photo prints. This is great for capturing fast-moving sports or racing scenes. You can take a series of shots, then choose the ones you like the best and delete the rest.
(Note that the focus and exposure are fixed at the first frame.)

* In 3-megapixel (4:3), 2.5-megapixel (3:2), 2-megapixel (16:9) recording. The consecutive shooting speed varies depending on the memory card. The number of recordable picture depends on the memory card size, battery life, picture size, and compression.

Max. 10 frames/second!

Panorama Assist Mode

New

After the first shot
Screen for taking the second shot

This is a handy function for aligning panorama photos using the included Software Panorama Maker. The afterimage of each previous shot is displayed so you can use it to precisely line up the second and third shots.

Macro Zoom

New

You can pull subjects even closer than the closest point possible with the wide-angle setting by using 3x digital zoom, and capture dramatic close-ups.

11-area AF

When using 11-area AF, the camera automatically determines the most appropriate AF area from the eleven points. This ensures accurate focusing even for difficult compositions. You can also select the AF setting from five patterns — Face AF, 1-area high-speed AF, 1-area AF, Spot AF and AF Tracking — according to your shooting situation.

Select from 3 Aspect Ratios

The aspect ratio for the DMC-FX48(FX40) can be easily selected from 16:9*1 wide, 3:2*2 and conventional 4:3 to shoot in the framing aspect that best suits the photo's composition or purpose of use. The 16:9 ratio gives images that match the aspect ratio of an HDTV screen. Wide-angle shooting is possible in all three aspect ratios*3.

*1 4,000 x 2,248 pixels, 3,264 x 1,840 pixels, 2,560 x 1,440 pixels, 1,920 x 1,080 pixels

* Please confirm that the TV, you are connecting to, has a component input terminal compatible with a 1080i signal.

And you can do it right inside the camera.* Simply display the recorded image in playback mode, then follow the easy-to-understand display instructions to level it. Even difficult corrections of straight horizons and architectural buildings can be made with excellent results.

* The picture quality will deteriorate.

Title Edit / Text Stamp

The Title Edit function in playback mode lets you edit the titles of any photos you want. Two of the Scene Modes, Baby Mode and Pet Mode, let you enter the date of birth and name of your subject in advance. You can also enter your destination and the date of travel in advance, in the Travel Date setting. The title, name, age based on the birth date, date of travel information, and date of shooting are displayed during playback, and can be printed on photos.*

* When date, name and title are stamped on a photo, the photo is automatically resized to 3-megapixel format, or the original size is maintained for photos smaller than 3-megapixel format. However, you can choose either to save or overwrite the original picture.

USB2.0 High-speed

Included Software

PHOTOfunSTUDIO 3.0

It features a Face Recognition function that recognizes the faces in the pictures stored in your PC to sort them by faces for you regardless of the camera type you used. Through the sophisticated interface, you can also enjoy emotion-packed slideshows with a variety of effects and music. Motion images can also be uploaded directly to YouTube™.

Frequently used functions can be quickly retrieved and easily switched by using the Q.MENU button. The function names are displayed in text form, making them easy for anyone to understand and use.

The display size can be set to Standard or Large.

Clipboard

The Clipboard function is incredibly handy for the maps and time schedules that are so important when traveling. By snapping photos of them and adding them to the clipboard, you can retrieve them instantly with the Mode Dial. Because it takes a little time to retrieve images from an SDHC/SD Memory Card, the images are stored in their own special folders in the Built-in Memory. You can find them immediately. This lets the Clipboard work like a quick and easy memo function.

Built-in Memory 40MB

Take photos even when you don‘t have an SDHC/SD Memory Card on hand. The built-in memory holds up to approx. 40 MB of image data, which you can later copy to an SDHC/SD Memory Card or PC. You can also copy images from a memory card or PC to the built-in memory, and view them on the LCD anytime you like. In addition to providing extra memory when your memory card fills up, this is a great place to store your favorite photos so you can view them anytime you want.

Number of Recordable and Storable Photos

Demo Mode

The Demo Mode provides an easy-to-understand slideshow of the DMC-FX48(FX40) functions, such as the effects of the 25mm wide-angle lens, 5x optical zoom and the iA Mode.

Marine Case Compatible
