Scene Mode and Useful Functions

Scene Mode

Advanced

Versatile Scene Modes are a great LUMIX feature. And the Scene Mode list display makes them even easier to find. The DMC-FX500(FX520) also lets you select a mode using the touch-screen. Newly designed animated icons help you to make selections easily. A total of 20 Scene Modes ensure beautiful results from any situation and any subject.

Baby Mode / Pet Mode

The date of birth and name for the Baby Mode and Pet Mode can be entered by using the touch-screen for added convenience.

High-speed Burst Mode*

The DMC-FX500(FX520) can fire off up to approx. 6 frames per second in High-speed Burst Mode. This is great for capturing fast-moving sports or racing scenes. You can take a series of shots, then choose the one you like best and delete the rest.
(Note that the focus and exposure are fixed at the first frame.)

* In 2-megapixel (4:3), 2.5-megapixel (3:2), 2-megapixel (16:9) recording. The consecutive shooting speed varies depending on the memory card. The number of recordable picture depends on the memory card size, battery life, picture size, and compression.

Maximum ISO 6400 in High Sensitivity Mode*

The maximum sensitivity in High Sensitivity Mode has been increased to ISO 6400. This lets you shoot in nearly total darkness. In addition, when using High Sensitivity Mode, the built-in flash reaches as far as approx. 15.4 meters, letting you capture clear images even in dim lighting.

* In 3-megapixel (4:3), 2.5-megapixel (3:2), 2-megapixel (16:9) recording. Resolution significantly decreases in High Sensitivity Mode.

The DMC-FX500(FX520) can play a slideshow with music. The touch-screen lets you select the music and transition effect and also adjust the sound level for easy, relaxing slideshow enjoyment. Choose from four types of music: Natural, Slow, Swing and Urban. You can also use the optional DMW-HDC2 HD component cable to connect the camera to an HDTV for breathtaking, large-screen viewing.*

* Please confirm that the TV, you are connecting to, has a component input terminal compatible with a 1080i signal.

In the 9-area AF, the camera automatically determines the most appropriate AF area from the nine points. This ensures accurate focusing even for difficult compositions. You can also select the AF setting from six patterns -- Face AF, 3-area High-speed AF, 1-area high-speed AF, 1-area AF, Spot AF and new Touch AF -- according to your shooting situation. Plus, Quick AF makes sure you won't miss those sudden shooting opportunities.

The new Demo Mode provides an easy-to-understand slideshow of the DMC-FX500(FX520) functions, such as the effects of the 25mm wide-angle lens, 5x optical zoom, the functions included in the iA Mode, and the functions of the A/S/M Mode.

The allowable shooting range is displayed above the zoom bar. This lets you readjust the distance between the camera and the subject, or switch to Macro mode to shoot sharp, clear pictures. The measurement unit can be selected from either feet or meters.

Minimum Shutter Speed Function

New

Now, the minimum shutter speed can be set in nine steps, from 1/250 to 1 second. To prevent motion blur, select a faster shutter speed. When using a tripod for a longer exposure, select a slower shutter speed. By matching the setting to your shooting style, you can prevent mis-shots and get the kind of photos you really want.

Light Metering

Set the light metering mode to Intelligent Multiple, Center Weighted, or Spot. These modes cover a wide range of shooting situations, such as when you want to optimize the exposure on a subject's face when the light source is behind your subject.

9-cutout Images from Motion Images

A motion image can be cut out as a still image in motion image playback. And you can also archive a 9-cutout still image.

Dual Image Playback

The DMC-FX500 (FX520)'s large, 3.0" LCD lets you view and compare two photos at the same time. You can also enlarge them up to 16x size for a better look when deciding which ones to keep. With the DMC-FX500(FX520), you can perform these operations smoothly on the touch-screen. With this handy function, you can organize your photos right on the spot, as soon as you take them.

Category Playback

Photos played back from a total of nine settings can be searched and retrieved as a group for playback or for viewing in a slideshow. The touch-screen of the DMC-FX500(FX520) has large category icons for easy selection and smooth, relaxing playback.

The date of shooting can be printed on photos. And the subject's name and age based on the birth date input in Baby Mode or Pet Mode, the date of travel information entered in the Travel Date setting, and a title edited by using Title Edit function in Easy Organization Menu, can also be printed.

*When date, name and title are stamped on a photo, the photo is automatically resized to 3-megapixel format, or the original size is maintained for photos smaller than 3-megapixel format. However, you can choose either to save or overwrite the original picture.

Built-in Memory approx. 50MB

Advanced

Take photos even when you don't have an SDHC/SD Memory Card on hand. Just use the built-in memory, then copy the data to an SDHC/SD card or PC later. You can also copy images from a memory card or PC to the built-in memory, and view them on the LCD anytime you like. Plus, the built-in memory capacity of the DMC-FX500(FX520) has been increased to approx. 50 MB. In addition to providing extra memory when your memory card fills up, this is a great place to store your favorite photos so you can view them anytime you want.
