Advanced Hybrid Control System

The DMC-FX580(FX550) incorporates a 3.0-inch large touch-screen interface to achieve amazing ease in both shooting and playing back the images. LUMIX proposes a hybrid operation system combining the touch-screen interface and the conventional operation system with cursor key for more quick and intuitive control, by taking advantage of both operation systems. Basic menu settings can be directly controlled by the cursor key, and others extensive ones are finely adjusted by touch or by moving a slider on the screen with the finger or an included stylus-pen. The DMC-FX580(FX550)’s touch-screen operation brings new enjoyment to the digital photography.

Touch AF/AE Tracking

With the DMC-FX580(FX550), auto focus and exposure can be set at the desired part of the frame by simply touching the subject at that part to activate the AF/AE. This eliminates the need to make adjustments after pressing the shutter halfway, allowing you to set the desired composition and appropriate exposure easily and accurately. This is also helpful when you would like to designate the subject out of other objects in the frame, to set best appropriate focus and exposure right on it.

Once the AF/AE subject is selected by touch control, it continues to track the subject even if it moves. This is especially helpful for catching active children or pets. It also conveniently tracks the subject when the person taking the photo is riding on a moving object. And it minimizes the shutter time lag for spur-of-the-moment shots.

Touch AF/AE Tracking Adds to the Intuitive Ease of the iA Mode

The iA (Intelligent Auto) Mode of the DMC-FX580(FX550) has a feature that is not offered on any other LUMIX model. Touch AF/AE Tracking let you set auto focusing and auto exposure, and then track a moving subject by simply touching it on the screen.
New levels of ease and flexibility combine with highly accurate auto focusing and auto exposure to make the iA (Intelligent Auto) Mode even simpler to use.

Easy Manual Operation – A/S/M Mode

The aperture, shutter speed, and exposure compensation can be adjusted intuitively and easily by touching the screen or moving the slider, thus achieving an unprecedented level of operating ease. The touch-screen ushers in a new style of manual operation.

Finely Detailed White Balance Setting

Intuitive touch-screen operation makes white balance adjustment more flexible and precise. The 2-axis adjustment feature gives you a finer white balance adjustment for Auto, Daylight, Cloudy, Shade, or Halogen conditions. It can also be used when adjusting the Color Temperature Setting or White Set function. You can adjust with a reference to the horizontal axis for amber to blue and the vertical axis for green to magenta.*
The Color Temperature Setting provides more flexible, more precise adjustment than conventional white balance settings, with compensation from 2,500 K to 10,000 K in 100 K steps.

*White balance adjustment is not possible in some modes.

Quick Menu

Frequently used functions can be quickly retrieved and easily switched by using the Q.MENU button. Function names are also displayed in text form so they are easy for anyone to understand and use. The DMC-FX580(FX550) lets you make settings faster and more intuitively thanks to the hybrid control of the touch-screen and cursor operation.

* During playback, this button becomes the Delete button.

Easy Organization Menu

In playback mode, a Easy Organization Menu is provided to simplify image organizing. You can quickly select an image to view by scrolling the thumbnails located below the main window, and then edit the image by resizing, trimming, leveling and inputting the text title of the picture. You can also flag the desired image as your favorites or delete them in one menu interface.

Picture Playback Touch Zoom

Touch the part you want to enlarge. You can zoom up to 16x.

The zoom area can be dragged in any of four directions.

Zoom Playback has become even more convenient. By simply touching the part to be enlarged, you can zoom in as much as 16x. The zoom area can be dragged in any of four directions for speedy and precise confirmation.

Title Edit

The Title Edit function in playback mode lets you edit the titles of any photos you want. Inputting and editing the text is astonishingly smooth and quick, thanks to the touch-screen interface. Two of the Scene Modes, Baby Mode and Pet Mode, let you enter the name and date of the birth of your subject in advance. The title name and the age based on the input birth date are displayed during playback, and can also be printed on photos.

Touch-scroll Playback

Now the slideshow is dramatically speeded up max.4x for single image playback and even max.17x for thumbnails compared to the previous model, which realizes smooth, comfortable viewing of images. Just like flipping the pages of a book, this makes playback easier and more flexible.

Large, 3.0-inch, 230,000-dot High-resolution LCD

The DMC-FX580(FX550)'s 3.0-inch LCD features a high 230,000-dot resolution, and a wide viewing angle that lets you frame your shot in a variety of ways for both shooting and viewing. LUMIX's acclaimed Intelligent LCD function also automatically adjusts the brightness in 11 steps according to shooting conditions. This LCD provides sharp, clear images in virtually all shooting situations, ranging from nighttime to bright daylight scenes and from low-angle to high-angle shooting. And it lets you share the fun of viewing images with family and friends.

Wide-viewing Angle

Intelligent LCD - Automatic Brightness Control by 11 Steps

The DMC-FX580(FX550) features the Intelligent LCD. Auto Power LCD function adjusts the backlight brightness in 11 steps according to the ambient light intensity. At the highest of these 11 steps, the LCD backlight becomes approx. 1.4 times brighter than normal. This makes both shooting and viewing photos easier and more convenient.

The icons and buttons of the DMC-FX580(FX550) were redesigned with the addition of the touch-screen.
