Newly Developed 14.1-megapixel MOS Sensor

To realize the 1,920 x 1,080 full-HD movie recording with high image quality, the new 14.1-megapixel MOS sensor is developed for the DMC-FX700. For the effective concentration of light, the newly developed sensor adopts microfabrication technology to achieve even higher sensitivity. With an advanced micro light tube structure, both color mixture and signal loss are prevented. The result is that the photo and movie shot at any sensitivity from low to high have outstanding clearness.
High-speed Consecutive Shooting

The high speed digital signal output technology integrated in the DMC-GH1 is applied to the DMC-FX700 realizing the high speed consecutive shooting. It lets the DMC-FX700 to shoot 10 frames per second in 14-megapixel full resolution with mechanical shutter and 5 frames per second with continuous AF. Even higher speed burst shooting is available with the DMC-FX700 if electronic shutter is used – 60 frames per second in 3.5-megapixel*. The frame rate, AF setting and the recording resolution can be easily selected according to the movement of the subject.
* In the high speed burst shooting at 60 fps, the picture size is 2.5-megapixel (16:9), 3-megapixel (3:2), 3.5-megapixel (4:3) or 2-megapixel (1:1).

The DMC-FX700 can fire off up to approx. 10 frames per second in full 14-megapixel resolution with its mechanical shutter. Great for capturing fast subject motion, such as sports scenes or birds in flight.

The DMC-FX700 lets you snap off consecutive shots at approx. 5 frames per second or 2 frames per second with continuous AF. That keeps the focus on quickly moving children for capturing decisive moments with crisp clarity.

Even higher-speed burst shooting is possible with the DMC-FX700 when the electronic shutter is used – 60 fps at 3.5-megapixel* resolution. Great for capturing race cars and other subjects that are difficult to catch with the naked eye.
*In the high speed burst shooting at 60 fps, the picture size is 2.5-megapixel (16:9), 3-megapixel (3:2), 3.5-megapixel (4:3) or 2-megapixel (1:1).

The Intelligent Burst Mode in the iA Mode adjusts the frame rate of burst shooting according to the speed of the subject’s movement. If the movement of the subject is not so fast, the camera shoot is at regular frame rate and it moves fast, the camera increases it accordingly.

*1 For the AF-single, the focus is fixed with the first picture for the burst.
*2 When 40fps mode or 60 fps mode is selected, the picture size setting will become as shown below;
40 fps mode: (4:3) 5M / 3M / 0.3M, (3:2) 4.5M / 2.5M / 0.3M, (16:9) 3.5M / 2M / 0.2M, (1:1) 3.5M / 2.5M / 0.2M.
60 fps mode: (4:3) 2.5M / 0.3M, (3:2) 3M / 0.3M, (16:9) 3.5M / 0.2M, (1:1) 2M / 0.2M.
*3 The number of recordable images depends on the memory card size and battery life.
*4 The range that can be recorded will become smaller when it is set to 60 fps mode.
Burst Shooting Mode in Category Playback
While conventional models play consecutively shot images one by one, the DMC-FX700 lets you retrieve a full consecutive shooting block for more compact playback. In addition, the Category Playback will gather only images that were shot with the Burst Shooting mode. Burst Shooting block images can be played together in a slideshow, or individually. And you can set your best photos as "favorite" or "protect" them from deletion.

Each Burst Shooting block has a thumbnail display.
Sonic Speed AF

The Sonic Speed AF system in the DMC-FX700 includes numerous re-engineering enhancements, including a higher-speed actuator, optimized algorithms and parallel software processing. The result is fast and accurate AF performance. You can quickly get moving subjects in focus, such as when you're shooting sports scenes.
Short Release Time Lag
The shutter release time lag is as short as approx. 0.008 second, making it easy to capture sudden, spur-of-the-moment photo opportunities.
Venus Engine

The Venus Engine for the DMC-FX700 features exceptionally advanced signal processing capabilities. By separating chromatic noise from luminance noise and applying the optimal noise reduction to each, you can capture clear and beautiful images even when shooting at high ISO sensitivity levels. The Venus Engine also provides precisely selective noise reduction to the chromatic noise without affecting the border of colors which is judged from the brightness level of a pixel.
Linking smoothly with the MOS sensor, the Venus Engine processes a large amount of signals at high speed, making it possible to record high resolution consecutive shots and full-HD movie recording.

The advanced image processing technology “Intelligent Resolution*" is incorporated in the Venus Engine for the DMC-FX700. With the Intelligent Resolution technology, 3 areas - outlines, detailed texture areas and soft gradation areas - are automatically detected and optimum signal processes are performed to each area.
Apart from the uniform enhancement of sharpness, the innovative technology Intelligent Resolution precisely performs signal processing pixel by pixel in the most effective way for it. As a result, images are naturally clear and crisp in both photo and movie recording.
* The Intelligent Resolution function turns ON in the iA Mode or in some Scene Modes.
In other cases, turn ON the Intelligent Resolution from the menu to activate it.

You can see individual trees and the smooth, rich gradation of plants and the sky.

You can distinguish the intricate detail of delicate feather patterns.

The tiniest details are sharply rendered, and their luster is clearly shown.

You get highly natural expression, as in waves lapping against a multicolored sunset.

You can cut out a clear still image from a movie in the camera thanks to the Intelligent Resolution technology.

The Intelligent Resolution technology realizes the Intelligent Zoom*, which virtually extends the optical zoom ratio to its 1.3x equivalent (approx.) maintaining the picture quality even combining the digital zoom. This means the 5x optical can virtually extend to 6.5x.

The graininess that results from picture noise and the flatness that sometimes comes with noise reduction measures are major concerns when shooting at high sensitivity levels. The Intelligent Resolution minimizes noise to produce sharp, clear images.

Intelligent Resolution Technology Is Effective for
60 fps Burst Shooting Mode and Some Scene Modes
To raise the image quality, the Intelligent Resolution automatically activates for modes in which the shooting resolution drops to 3-megapixel or less, such as the 60fps burst shooting mode and some Scene Modes.

Extended Battery Life

The energy-saving Venus Engine image processing engine and the efficient, rechargeable lithium-ion battery – which has been slimmed down to fit into thinner camera bodies – work together to extend the shooting time of the DMC-FX700. This lets users take approx. 300 shots on a single battery charge*.
