In the iA (Intelligent Auto) Mode, the camera does all the work, leaving you free to compose your shot and capture the moment. The Intelligent Burst Mode in the DMC-FX700 even matches the frame rate for burst shooting to the speed of your subject's movement.

You just press, aim and shoot. Once you've selected the iA Mode, the detection and correction functions go to work to give you beautiful photos and movies with maximum ease.

The Intelligent Resolution technology is always activated in the iA Mode, which results in the clearer and higher image quality in every photo and movie with extended zoom range equivalent to 6.5x by the Intelligent Zoom.
Motion Deblur Mode

When trying to record children or pets in a dimly lit room, have you ever missed to capture a smiling face or a special moment because your subject moved, causing the image to blur?
With the DMC-FX700, the Motion Deblur Mode* prevents blurring with even greater power. This mode integrates the Intelligent ISO Control, which automatically adjusts the ISO setting and shutter speed according to the subject's movement, and the advanced contrast control system of Intelligent Exposure, which also optimizes the exposure to prevent over/under-exposed parts in the image. The camera judges the appropriate shutter speed to suppress motion blur according to the subject's movement. The shutter speed rises as high as possible activating the high sensitivity recording by pixel mixed readout method.
The camera determines the optimal settings, so anyone can easily capture crisp, clear photos - without blurring.

Press the “MENU” button, and then set the “MOTION DEBLUR” to ON to activate the mode. The icon will vibrate when a moving subject is detected.
Intelligent ISO Control – Motion Detection

The Intelligent ISO Control function* detects subject movement and automatically adjusts the ISO setting and shutter speed to best suit the movement and light conditions. When it detects subject motion, it automatically raises the ISO setting and increases the shutter speed to prevent motion blur. On the other hand, when the subject is still and no movement is detected, it takes beautifully natural photos with a low ISO setting.

The subject is clear even though it moves, thanks to the I.ISO function.

The image is very clear because the I.ISO function keeps the ISO setting low.
* The Intelligent ISO Control function is automatically turned on in the iA Mode, and can be turned on or off in the P/A Mode to enable a maximum sensitivity setting.
Intelligent Exposure – Light Detection

The Intelligent Exposure instantly analyzes the framed image and adjusts the brightness in areas that are too dark due to dim lighting, backlighting or use of the flash. Adjusting the brightness of dark areas, this produces natural images that are close to the way they actually look to the human eye. The DMC-FX700 lets you adjust the effect in three levels – high, normal, and low.

* The Intelligent Exposure function is automatically turned on in the iA Mode and can be turned on or off in the P/A/S/M Mode.
Auto Backlight Compensation
When there is strong backlighting, the background appears nice and bright, but the subject is dark. This function detects backlight condition and compensates it automatically.
POWER O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) – Shake Detection

Everyone has had an experience of taking a photo at night and hoping to capture all the memories and beauty, only to be disappointed at the poor result. Panasonic has worked on the low-frequency vibration hand-shake component, which is physically generated when pressing the shutter button or when shooting at night with a slow shutter speed. The POWER O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer)* nearly doubles the hand-shake correction power of conventional MEGA O.I.S. You get bright photos without blurring even from handheld shooting at slow shutter speeds.

The quality of night shots is heavily influenced by the shutter speed. When the shutter speed is raised to prevent blurring, insufficient lighting can make the shot too dark. And when the shutter speed is slowed down to allow more light, hand-shake could occur.
In addition to the powerful hand-shake correction of POWER O.I.S., the DMC-FX700 features the iA Mode, which intelligently determines the best shutter speed. Together, they produce dramatically beautiful night scenes.

Touch AF Tracking – Subject Detection

Once the AF subject is selected by touch control, it continues to track the subject even if it moves until you press the shutter. When you're taking images of active children, pets, sports scenes or subjects in a moving object, this function eliminates the need to press the shutter button halfway down repeatedly to readjust the focus. The Touch AF Tracking makes sure you don't miss those once-in-a-lifetime shooting opportunities.
Intelligent Burst Mode

The newly added Intelligent Burst Mode adjusts the frame rate of burst shooting according to the speed of the subject’s movement. If the movement of the subject is not so fast, the camera shoot is at regular frame rate and it moves fast, the camera increases it accordingly.
Quick AF
The DMC-FX700 features the Quick AF*1. Ordinary AF is activated when the shutter button is pressed half-way, while the Quick AF starts operating as soon as the camera is pointed toward a subject. This dramatically reduces the shutter delay time and lets you take images quickly*2. Its super-fast focus is ideal for capturing quick images of active children and pets. By setting the camera to the Quick AF, images of sudden shooting opportunities won't be out of focus or blurry.
*1 The Quick AF is automatically turned on in the iA Mode and can be turned on or off in the P/A/S/M Mode. It can also be switched to the Continuous AF in P/A/S/M Mode if desired. The Quick AF does not work together with the AF Tracking.
*2 The focus speed may be slower in dark surroundings.
Face Detection AF/AE with Face Recognition

The conventional face detection system captures a face with focus and appropriate exposure but sometimes it falls not on the face you want to capture most beautifully when there are several faces in a frame. The Face Recognition prioritizes focus and exposure right on the face of your special person.

The DMC-FX700 features the Face Recognition, a function that “remembers” faces. Register the person from the menu by taking his/her full-face portrait with his/her name. Once complete, if the familiar face appears into your frame again, the camera will display the name you specified for that person and prioritize focus and exposure so that the registered face is bright and in sharp focus*1. Up to 3 persons' names can be displayed at once. In playback, you can choose to display only photos that contain a specific registered face using the Category Playback. The Face Recognition makes sorting archiving incredibly easy.
The Face Detection also features the Digital Red-eye Correction (Red-eye Removal). The camera takes care of the red-eye effect that often happens when shooting with a flash, to ensure attractive facial expression*2.

The name and birth date can be registered.

A maximum of 6 persons can be registered.

Take a clear, full-face portrait with eyes open looking straight at the camera*1. Adding a variation of angles and facial expressions may increase the accuracy of recognition.

The registered person is automatically focused on, and up to 3 names can be displayed at once.

If the person is supposed to be 3 years or younger according to the registered birth date, the Baby Mode is activated.

You can select the focus icon, which is displayed when the shutter is pressed halfway.

The Category Playback lets you choose to play only Face Recognition photos, if desired.

You can view a collection of the photos containing a specific person.

A person's face can be detected to set focus automatically.
(Up to 15 persons' faces can be detected at the same time.)

The Face Detection AE controls the exposure to adjust the brightness of the face properly.
![]()

Once detecting the face, even if the subject moves, camera can track the subject accordingly.
![]()

The flash is forced on against back light condition if back light compensation is not enough.
![]()

After detecting exposure of face's part, the amount of the flash lighting is automatically adjusted.
(The camera activates the flash in the red-eye reduction mode when it detects a face.)
![]()

The occurrence of red-eye is automatically reduced by a pre-flash in the iA Mode and corrected by the Digital Red-eye Correction function.
*1 Turn the Face Recognition ON and register the person with full-face portrait on the shooting menu in advance.
Recognition performance varies greatly depending on shooting conditions, i.e., according to factors such as angles, facial expression and lighting, so operation under all conditions cannot be guaranteed. Because the camera searches for faces that are similar to registered faces, there are cases where the faces are not correctly recognized when the registered image and the shooting image varies much. When facial characteristics are similar, particularly between parents and their children or brothers and sisters, the camera may not distinguish the faces.
*2 The Digital Red-eye Correction must be turned ON in the menu prior to use.
Intelligent Scene Selector – Scene Detection

When the camera's in the iA Mode, the Intelligent Scene Selector automatically sets the Scene Mode to one of Scenery, Portrait, Macro, Night Portrait*1, Night Scenery or Sunset. The camera judges it from the various detection results such as focusing and brightness level of the circumstance*2. You are free from annoying settings every time scene changes when taking images with these most frequently used Scene Modes to get beautiful results even before you know it.
*1 In the iA Mode, the Night Portrait is not identified when the flash is turned off.
*2 With some subject and shooting conditions, it is just not possible to judge the best shooting details. When this happens, it is recommended that you shoot with the Scene Mode that best suits your purpose.
![]()
The Intelligent Scene Selector is made even more convenient by being able to select the subject within the frame by touching it. Once the subject is touched, the camera judges the optimal settings and automatically switches to the appropriate shooting mode.

The Happy Mode, a color mode option in the iA Mode, optimizes color, saturation and brightness to make images more vivid and true to the color of the scene you remember. It can be used in combination with each Scene Mode in the Intelligent Scene Selector. The Happy Mode is also available in movie recording.
