f/2.5 LEICA DC VARIO-SUMMARIT Lens
The DMC-FX90 incorporates a high-quality LEICA DC VARIO-SUMMARIT lens with f/2.5 brightness. The f/2.5 lens is brighter by approx. 25% than the f/2.8 lens which is generally considered a bright lens. It allows the use of higher shutter speed but captures clear, sharp, blur-free images even in lower lighting situation.

This lens unit comprises 7 elements in 6 groups including 3 aspherical lenses with 5 aspherical surfaces. The Extra High Index Low Dispersion Meniscus Aspherical lens, as thin as 0.3mm, features high refractive index and low dispersion performance which results in the excellent color reproduction and suppression of chromatic aberration.
This advanced lens unit passes Leica's stringent standards and delivers an exceptional optical performance with its minimal distortion and chromatic aberrations while suppressing ghosting and flaring.

24mm Ultra Wide-angle Lens
The 24mm ultra wide-angle lens* – rare on a compact camera – gives you a wider range of composition possibilities with approx. 213% larger viewing space compared to that of 35mm camera. The super-high-quality LEICA DC VARIO-SUMMARIT lens minimizes distortion at the wide end.

5x Optical Zoom / 6.5x Intelligent Zoom / 9.8x Extra Optical Zoom
The DMC-FX90 features a 5x optical zoom lens (35mm camera equivalent: 24-120mm). This gives you highly natural expressions from people and animals that you can't get close to. The 5x optical zoom can be increased its power to 6.5x equivalent with the Intelligent Zoom function. Furthermore, the Extra Optical Zoom function that extends zoom power to 9.8x* by using the center part of the large CCD brings subjects even closer.

MEGA O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer)
The MEGA O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) compensates for the blurring caused by hand-shake. Even slight hand-shake movement is accurately detected by a sampling frequency of 4,000 times per second, and compensated to produce sharp, clear images.
In addition, the Active Mode is available in video recording.
