Full-HD Movie in AVCHD Format
The DMC-FZ100 is an advanced photographic tool for recording not only great photos but also beautiful full-HD movies. In addition to Motion JPEG images, the DMC-FZ100 can record high-resolution full-HD 1,920 x 1,080 60i (NTSC) / 50i (PAL) movies in AVCHD (MPEG-4/H.264)*1 format. The AVCHD format features almost twice the recording time in HD quality than the conventional Motion JPEG and excels in the compatibility with AV equipment like HDTVs or Blu-ray Disc™ players. The powerful 24x optical zoom is available in movie recording with the mechanism designed to minimize the noise of auto focusing or zooming. With DMC-FZ100, there are always two options to record spur-of-the-moment scenes – high-quality photos or movies. You can simply choose the one that saves precious memories most beautifully.
Formats to Match Your Needs
AVCHD: Optimal for viewing on a VIERA TV or with a DIGA recorder / player.
Motion JPEG: Optimal for viewing or editing on a computer.
Intelligent Resolution Technology![]()
The image quality is greatly enhanced thanks to the new image processing technology “Intelligent Resolution*2”, incorporated in the Venus Engine for the DMC-FZ100. By detecting the signals whether they are at edges of the subject, they compose detailed texture or just a soft gradation first and give appropriate enhancement to the edges and textured areas respectively. Unlike the uniform enhancement of sharpness, the innovative Intelligent Resolution precisely performs optimum signal processing to give a whole image outstandingly natural clearness with fine details. As a result, images are naturally clear and crisp in movie recording as well as photo recording.

*1 Full-HD (1,920 x 1,080) movies are recorded at 60i (NTSC) /50i (PAL). HD (1,280 x 720) movies are output and recorded by the image sensor at 60p (NTSC) / 50p (PAL).
*2 The Intelligent Resolution function turns ON in the iA Mode or in some Scene Modes. In other cases, turn ON the Intelligent Resolution from the menu to activate it.
*3 Approx. The length of recording time depends on the capacity of the SD/SDHC/SDXC Memory Card. • For Europe, motion images can be recorded continuously for up to 29 minutes 59 seconds. The maximum continuous recording time (up to 29 minutes 59 seconds) is displayed on the screen. • Use a card with SD Speed Class* with "Class 4" or higher when recording motion images in AVCHD. Also, use a card with SD Speed Class with "Class 6" or higher when recording motion images in Motion JPEG. *SD Speed Class is the speed standard regarding continuous writing.
*4 QuickTime Motion JPEG. Continuous recording exceeding 2GB is not possible when recording Motion JPEG.
*5 These are standard times taken at a temperature of 23°C (73.4°F) and a humidity of 50%RH. The time available for recording varies depending on the environment, the interval between recordings, and the manner of use. Actual recordable time is the time available for recording when repeating actions such as switching the power supply [ON]/[OFF], starting/stopping recording, zoom operation, etc.
High Quality Sound
![]()
A stereo microphone, featuring Dolby® Digital Stereo Creator, on the upper body records dynamic, true-to-life stereo audio that brings out the power of your HD movies. In addition, thanks to a silence design that helps suppress lens drive noise, the DMC-FZ100 records sounds in greater clarity.
• Dolby and the double-D symbol are trademarks of Dolby Laboratories.
Powerful 24x Optical Zoom

The 24x optical zoom* of the DMC-FZ100 lets you zoom up close to subjects that you can't actually approach, even when shooting movies. This single camera will capture both photos and movies of wild animals in highly natural poses, dynamic sports scenes and countless other situations, exactly as you see them.
* 31-735mm in 35mm camera equivalent in movie recording.
Motion Picture Button
Motion image recording can be started by pressing a dedicated button on the top of the camera — an extremely quick, convenient way to start motion image recording. Most of the camera's settings will be carried over when switched to motion image recording.
Creative Movie Mode
Aperture-priority Mode
Shutter-priority Mode
The DMC-FZ100 features a Creative Movie Mode, which lets you set the shutter speed and aperture manually to make even more impressive movies. Changing the shutter speed brings special effects to movies, which is especially suitable for shooting fast-moving subjects. The ability to control the aperture is convenient when there are several subjects at different distances and it is desired to have each of them stand out. Creative Movie Mode gives the user a wider range of expressive possibilities to explore.
My Color Mode / Film Mode /
Happy Mode

You can use the My Color Mode and Film Mode for shooting movies. They render highly unique expressions by matching the colors to your subject and surroundings. In the iA Mode, you can apply Happy Mode as well, for even brighter coloring.
iA (Intelligent Auto) Mode for Movie
The iA (Intelligent Auto) Mode is also available in motion image recording. The iA Mode automatically and simultaneously activates 4 advanced detection functions: The POWER O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) to detect hand-shake, the Face Detection AF/AE to detect faces in the frame, the Intelligent Scene Selector to detect scene conditions, and the Intelligent Exposure to detect the ambient light. Since the camera automatically optimizes the settings, it lets you shoot stunning HD movies every time.

Gyrosensors detect hand-shaking and the O.I.S. lens shifts to compensate, helping prevent blurring caused by hand-shaking.

The Face Detection function detects faces anywhere in the frame and automatically chooses the optimal focus and exposure.

![]()
The Intelligent Scene Selector senses the ambient conditions and automatically selects any of the Scenery, Portrait, Macro, or Low Light Mode accordingly.

![]()
By detecting the intensity of the ambient light and adjusting the exposure accordingly, the Intelligent Exposure prevents blown highlights and blocked shadows.
*1 The POWER O.I.S., Face Detection AF/AE and Intelligent Exposure are automatically turned on in the iA Mode and can be turned on or off in the P/A/S/M Mode or some Scene Modes.
*2 With some subject and shooting conditions, it is just not possible to judge the best shooting details. When this happens, it is recommended that you shoot with the Scene Mode that best suits your purpose.
Advanced Scene Mode and
Scene Mode for Movie
You are naturally supposed to take the same subject in the same situation when you start recording movie while recording photos. So you do not have to set the Advanced Scene Mode or Scene Mode again for movie recording once you are in the Advanced Scene Mode or Scene Mode of photo recording. The result is a beautiful movie best optimized for the scene.
High-speed Movie at 220 fps in QVGA Size
This function lets you record high-speed movies at 220 frames per second in QVGA size. That means you can capture the moment the soccer ball finds the net. Or the moment that a tennis racket strikes the ball. You can even capture scenes that can't be seen with the naked eye, and play them back in dramatic slow motion.
Still Image Recording
in Movie Recording

While shooting an HD movie, simply press the shutter button and the camera shoots a photo as it records*. This makes sure that you don't miss those decisive moments with either photos or movies, or both.
* The picture size is max. 3.5-megapixel (16:9), 3-megapixel (3:2), 2.5-megapixel (4:3) or 2-megapixel (1:1).
Video Divide

You can divide a single video into two parts using only the camera. This is handy for compiling memorable scenes, and deleting unwanted scenes to free up space on your memory card while you are traveling.
Cut Animation
You can cut out a clear still image from a movie in the camera thanks to the Intelligent Resolution technology.

Seamless Slideshows with Photos and Movies

The DMC-FZ100 has many slideshow options for both photos and movies. They help you to recollect memorable moments in seamless, chronological order. You can also select and play only photos, only movies, or only AVCHD movies. Choose whichever slideshow you want.
VIERA Link / HDMI Compatibility
Just connect the DMC-FZ100 to an HDTV and you're ready to view your photos and movies in beautiful high-definition. Motion images recorded in AVCHD on SD/SDHC/SDXC Memory Cards are easy to view on a Panasonic VIERA TV. Simply insert the card into the VIERA Image Viewer (SD/SDHC/SDXC card slot) on a VIERA TV or DIGA recorder / player to playback your content. Alternatively, you can use an optional mini HDMI cable to output the motion images you took from the DMC-FZ100 directly to the TV for VIERA Link. You can take maximum advantage of LUMIX's playback functions including the slideshow in which both photos and movies are integrated in the timeline, Face Recognition playback or calendar display and so on. All control is possible using only the TV's remote control.
