LS85 TOP

Bright f/2.8 Lens / Venus Engine IV / Runs on AA Batteries

Superb 4x Optical Zoom Lens with f/2.8 Brightness

Advanced

The 8.1-megapixel resolution DMC-LS85 packages a superb f/2.8 LUMIX DC VARIO lens with 4x optical zoom (35mm film camera equivalent: 33-132mm) into a compact body. A crystallization of Panasonic's advanced lens technologies, the LUMIX DC VARIO lens comprises 6 elements in 5 groups, including 3 aspherical lenses with 4 aspherical surfaces, delivering outstanding optical performance. This extremely thin lens is what makes the DMC-LS85 body so compact.

Use the Extra Optical Zoom when you want to pull the subject in just a little closer. It extends the 4x optical zoom ratio to 6.4x (35mm film camera equivalent: 211mm) at resolutions of 3 megapixels or less, by using the central part of the CCD. Adding the Extra Optical Zoom to the 4x digital zoom*2 extends the total zooming power to a maximum of 25.5x.

*1 At a resolution of 3-megapixel or less. In the U.S.A. market, the Extra Optical Zoom is called the Extended Optical Zoom.
*2 As digital magnification increases, resolution significantly decreases.

Venus Engine IV

The image-processing engine, Venus Engine IV, uses advanced signal processing to give you beautiful images even when the sensitivity is high. Multi-task signal processing is employed for all images to enable high-speed, high-performance shooting. Venus Engine IV also effectively raises the precision of various functions, such as MEGA O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) and Intelligent ISO Control. Along with its extremely high performance, Venus Engine IV reduces power consumption thanks to a number of energy efficiency improvements.

Higher Image Quality with Advanced Signal Processing

Luminance noise and chromatic noise are reduced separately in the Venus Engine III. In addition, the Venus Engine IV enhances this detection by effectively reducing highly noticeable low-frequency chromatic noise in advance, while delicately applying noise reduction (NR) processing to detailed areas to prevent the color bleeding that often happens when NR is used. As a result, beautiful images with minimal noise can be reproduced all the way up to ISO 1600 high sensitivity at full resolution while color noise is less noticeable in shadows and other dark areas even when shooting with low sensitivity.

High Speed Response

Advanced

The DMC-LS85 slashes the release time lag to around 0.007 second minimum. This makes DMC-LS85 an extremely quick, responsive camera. It lets you capture images comfortably even at a moment's notice and is a pleasure to use. In addition, the startup time is shortened to approx. 1.8 seconds, which is 1.1 seconds faster than our previous model*.

MEGA Burst Consecutive Shooting in Full Resolution

The DMC-LS85 lets you snap off consecutive shots at approx. 3 frames per second*1 in full resolution. The Unlimited*2 Consecutive Shooting function lets you keep on shooting until the memory card is full. You can take a series of shots, then choose the one you like best and delete the rest. You can also select High-speed Burst Mode*3 from Scene Mode.

*1 Maximum of 7 images in Standard mode and 4 images in Fine mode.
*2 The consecutive shooting speed varies depending on the memory card. The number of recordable picture depends on the memory card size, battery life, picture size, and compression.
*3 In 3-megapixel (4:3), 2.5-megapixel (3:2), 2-megapixel (16:9) recording.

Full Resolution

* The burst speed values given above apply when the shutter speed is 1/60 or faster and when the flash is not activated. The number of recordable picture depends on the memory card size and battery life. The burst speed is constant regardless of the transfer speed of the card.

Low Energy Consumption and AA Battery Drive

For convenience, the DMC-LS85 can be powered by two AA size batteries*1. Because AA size batteries can be purchased almost anywhere, you don't have to worry about suddenly running out of battery power. This is great both for taking everyday snapshots and when you are traveling. Furthermore, the energy-saving Venus Engine IV image-processing engine makes it possible to take around 270 shots on a single battery charge*2 despite the bright LCD.

*1 The AA(LR6) alkaline batteries are included as a standard accessory.
*2 Based on the CIPA standard.

Battery Life

* AA EVOLTA(AA EVOIA)batteries (Panasonic new battery) can also be used.
Alkaline batteries: Due to the characteristics of these dry cell batteries, the camera may not show the remaining power level accurately. The camera may indicate full power remaining even after extended battery use. In some cases the camera may display a low-battery warning and switch the power off, even though it indicates full power remaining.
Operating Temperature: 32°F–104°F(0°C–40°C)
Operating Humidity: 10%–80%
* Please note that the performance of the alkaline batteries significantly decreases in low temperature conditions.
* Based on the CIPA standard.
