Large, 3.0-inch 460,000-dot Intelligent LCD with Wide-Viewing Angle

Clear, easy-to-see LCD is upgraded both in size and resolution to be 3.0-inch with 460,000-dot high resolution to offer even more comfortable view for both monitoring when shooting and for playing back the results. Extraordinary 3:2 aspect of the LCD on the DMC-LX3 is familiar to those who are used to digital SLR cameras or analog film cameras. The Intelligent LCD function detects the light condition and automatically boosts the LCD backlighting by max. 40% when shooting outdoors in bright sunshine, and adjusts the frame rate when shooting in low-lit situations in addition to using the pixel mixed readout method to secure clarity in such situations. Detecting the lighting condition precisely and automatically controlling the brightness with a total of 11 fine steps, this function gives the display the most appropriate clarity in any situation without using extra energy.

Always easy to see – Intelligent LCD 11steps*

*Approx. 1.4 times brighter than normal.

Together with the newly adopted panel which boasts a wide viewing angle, it secures comfortable viewing while both monitoring shots and playing back the results in any circumstances.

HD Motion Images (1,280 x 720 pixels at 24 fps)

Watch a motion picture file. HD motion image (1,280 x 720 pixels at 24 fps) MOV file MB *Quick Time is required to watch this file.

The DMC-LX3 can record motion images in high-definition (1,280 x 720 pixels at 24 fps)*. The pixel mixed readout method enables bright motion-image recording even in low-light settings. When viewing, these high-resolution 16:9 motion images will provide a remarkable effect on your large-screen TV**. The DMC-LX3 can also record stunning full-size movies in WVGA (848 x 480 pixels at 30 fps)* or standard motion images in VGA (640 x 480 pixels at 30 fps)* and QVGA (320 x 240 pixels at 30/10 fps)*.

*QuickTime Motion JPEG.
**Requires an optional HD component cable DMW-HDC2 and confirm that the TV, you are connecting to, has a component input terminal compatible with a 1080i signal.
***In Motion Picture Mode, the length of recording time depends on the capacity of the SDHC/SD Memory Card. (Up to the equivalent of 2 GB per motion-image recording.) When you set the motion picture quality to VGA, WVGA and HD(1,280x720 pixels), we recommend using a high-speed memory card with "10MB/s" or greater on the package. Some lens movement sounds may be recorded.
For Europe, motion images can be recorded continuously for up to 15 minutes.

HD Output (Component Output)*

*Requires the DMW-HDC2, optional component cable.

Optional accessories

The DMC-LX3 supports the HD Output function (1080i output)*. Simply connect the camera to an HDTV with an optional HD component cable DMW-HDC2, and you can easily view HD photos on any HDTV. HD Output makes it possible to enjoy both HD motion images and slideshows of your LUMIX still images, complete with music.
By simply inserting an SDHC/SD Memory Card containing your photos into a Panasonic HDTV equipped with an SDHC/SD card slot**, you can also view HD Photos.

*Please confirm that the TV, you are connecting to, has a component input terminal compatible with a 1080i signal.
**The SDHC Memory Card can be used only if the SDHC logo is indicated on the equipment or in the operation manual. It cannot be used with equipment that supports only the SD Memory Card.

USB 2.0 High-Speed

The DMC-LX3 supports the USB 2.0 high-speed standard. In comparison with conventional full-speed data transfer at 12 Mbps, USB 2.0 high-speed transfers data at max.480 Mbps. This is a highly practical speed for sending high-volume image data from the camera to a PC for viewing or storage.

Optional Accessories

A wide range of optional accessories are available, such as the DMW-LW46 Wide Conversion Lens, which allows 18mm ultra-wide-angle shooting, the DMW-LPL46 PL Filter, which renders beautiful, lifelike landscapes and skies by cutting the reflections from water and glass surfaces and random light rays from the surroundings, and the high-end aluminum DMW-VF1 External Optical Viewfinder, which provides bright, clear viewing. Enjoy customizing your system, and then use it to produce highly distinctive images.

Convenient and Versatile Functions

iA (Intelligent Auto) Mode

iA (Intelligent Auto) Mode includes MEGA O.I.S. to detect hand-shake, Intelligent ISO Control to detect subject movement, Face Detection to detect faces in the frame, Intelligent Scene Selector to detect scene conditions, Light Detection to detect the brightness level and - new to the DMC-LX3 - AF Tracking to continually track a moving subject and keep it in focus. These 6 functions work automatically and simultaneously in iA Mode to optimize your settings, making it easier than ever to take beautiful photos every time.

Shake Detection – MEGA O.I.S.

MEGA O.I.S. OFFMEGA O.I.S. ON

Gyrosensors detect hand-shake and an O.I.S. lens shifts to compensate, helping prevent hand-shake blur. This system is completely optical – it does not affect the CCD or image processing – so you get sharp, clear images without deterioration. Choose from two modes. Mode 1 remains ON at all times for continuous compensation. Mode 2 starts working as soon as the shutter is released to achieve a greater effect. The DMC-LX3 also comes with an Auto position that switches modes according to the zoom level.

Motion Detection – Intelligent ISO Control

The Intelligent ISO Control* function made possible by the Venus Engine, which detects subject movement and automatically adjusts the ISO setting and shutter speed to best suit the movement and light conditions. When it detects subject motion, it automatically raises the ISO setting and increases the shutter speed to prevent motion blur. On the other hand, when it detects that the subject is still, it takes beautifully natural photos with a low ISO setting. The Venus Engine in the DMC-LX3 expands the detectable range to further increase the detection accuracy and correction effect. Intelligent ISO Control gives you stunning images with ease because there is no need for complicated settings.

*The Intelligent ISO Control function is automatically turned on in iA Mode, and can be turned on or off in P/A Mode to enable a maximum sensitivity setting.

Face Detection – Face Detection AF/AE

Face Detection AF/AE

The Face Detection function detects faces anywhere in the frame and automatically chooses the optimal focus and exposure. You can take clear, beautiful portrait shots easily. It detects up to 15 faces in a photo, and automatically readjusts the settings if their positions change. In theDMC-LX3, Face Detection remains active even if the faces turn sideways to the camera, enabling you to take beautiful portraits from the side.

Scene Detection – Intelligent Scene Selector

When the camera's in iA (Intelligent Auto) Mode, the Intelligent Scene Selector automatically sets the Scene Mode to either Scenery, Portrait, Macro, Night Portrait or Night Scenery*. The camera judges it from the various detection results such as focusing distance, inclusion of human face and brightness level of the circumstance**. You are free from annoying settings every time scene changes when taking pictures with these most frequently used Scene Modes to get beautiful results even before you know it.

*In iA Mode, Night Portrait is not identified when the flash is turned off, and Night Scenery is not identified when the flash is set to Auto.
**With some subject and shooting conditions, it is just not possible to judge the best shooting details. When this happens, it is recommended that you shoot with the Scene Mode that best suits your purpose.

Light Detection – Intelligent Exposure*

Intelligent Exposure OFFIntelligent Exposure ON

The camera instantly analyzes the framed image and adjusts the brightness in areas that are too dark due to dim lighting, backlighting or use of the flash. Adjusting the brightness of dark areas, this produces natural images that are close to the way they actually look to the human eye. The DMC-LX3 lets you adjust the effect to Low, Standard or High.

*Intelligent Exposure function is automatically turned on in iA Mode and can be turned on or off in P/A/S/M Mode.

Subject Detection – AF Tracking

Once you focus on your subject, AF Tracking* automatically tracks it until you press the shutter. When you're taking pictures of an active subject, like children or pets, this function eliminates the need to press the shutter button halfway down repeatedly to readjust the focus. AF Tracking makes sure you don't miss those once-in-a-lifetime shooting opportunities.

* For use in iA Mode, AF Tracking must be selected from the setting menu in advance.

Versatile Consecutive Shooting Modes

You can select from the DMC-LX3's versatile consecutive shooting modes to match your shooting situation and intent. This includes full-pixel shooting for the highest image quality, the High-speed Burst and Flash Burst Scene Modes, and consecutive shooting in RAW format without having to wait for the image data to be stored in memory.

Full Resolution*

*The burst speed values given above apply when the shutter speed is 1/60 or faster and when the flash is not activated. The number of recordable picture depends on the memory card size and battery life. The burst speed is constant regardless of the transfer speed of the card.
