The DMC-SZ9 boasts a powerful 10x optical zoom lens*. This gives you highly natural expressions from people and animals that you can't get close to. And its slim, stylish body can easily go wherever you go － for both everyday snapshots and traveling.

The 25mm ultra wide-angle lens* has about twice the shooting area as a standard 35mm lens. This enhances all kinds of shooting situations, like when you're photographing a group of people at an indoor party or shooting a large structure or sweeping landscape while traveling.

The Intelligent Zoom is an extensive zoom function using digital zoom with minimum deterioration of image quality thanks to the Intelligent Resolution technology. The 10x optical can virtually extend to 20x equivalent.
The DMC-SZ9 incorporates 25mm ultra wide-angle 10x optical zoom LEICA DC lens. Adoption of sliding structure of its optical system makes the unit's overall length short to fit in the slim body despite its versatile zoom range from ultra wide to telephoto. Passing Leica's stringent standards, DMC-SZ9 boasts exceptional optical performance with stunning clarity with minimum distortion and flare.

The MEGA O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) compensates for the blurring caused by hand-shake. Even slight hand-shake movement is accurately detected by a sampling frequency of 4,000 times per second, and compensated to produce sharp, clear images.

The DMC-SZ9 features the 16.1-megapixel High Sensitivity MOS sensor that boasts high-speed signal output and high-sensitivity image recording for making many advanced features possible. It also allows shooting images up to ISO3200 in full resolution.
The DMC-SZ9's Venus Engine processes large amount of full HD data at high-speed. At the same time, the multi-task image-processing engine, the Venus Engine realizes a super-fast response time.
The excellent S/N ratio of the MOS sensor and the Intelligent Noise Reduction system in the Venus Engine make both photos and videos shot at any sensitivity from low to high and boast outstanding clearness.
Resolution is prioritized at edge area.
Noise reduction is prioritized in soft gradation area.
The Multi-process Noise Reduction applies optimum noise reduction according to the brightness of the part of the image. Images recorded in low-lit situations are now dramatically clear.
High frequency noise that occurs in the dark part is suppressed.
Low frequency noise in the light part is suppressed.
You can snap off consecutive shots at approx. 5 fps or 2 fps with AF Tracking.
10 fps burst shooting is possible in High-Speed Burst Mode*. You can take a series of shots, then choose the ones you like the best and delete the rest.
* Recorded in 3M (4:3), 2.5M (3:2), 2M (16:9) or 2.5M (1:1). The number of burst recording pictures may increase when you use a card with fast writing speed or card is formatted. The focus, zoom, exposure, white balance, shutter speed, and ISO sensitivity are all fixed to the settings for the first picture

Make-up your face virtually. The One-touch Make Up Mode offers 5 patterns of latest trend make-up – Natural, Smokey, Glamour, Cheerful and Elegant.
You can raise the angle slightly to add a smiling expression.
The Aesthetic Retouch (Clear Skin, Shine Removal, Whitening of Teeth, Lift Up, Eye Emphasis) and Foundation (5 colors) are also available.
