28mm Wide-angle LEICA DC Lens with Folded Optics Technology
![]()

The DMC-TS1(FT1) features a 28mm wide-angle* 4.6x optional zoom f/3.3-5.9 LEICA DC VARIO-ELMAR lens (35mm film camera equivalent: 28-128mm). This lens system features the folded optics technology realized by the inclusion of a prism. It comprises 10 elements in 8 groups, with 1 ED (Extra Low Dispersion) lens and 5 aspherical lenses / 6 aspherical surfaces to achieve high optical performance while maintaining compactness. Naturally, the lens meets LEICA's stringent standards. This high-quality lens combines high brightness and minimal distortion to capture 28mm wide-angle photos* with outstanding, corner-to-corner detail.
* Converted to standard 35mm film camera equivalent, at the maximum wide position.
Advantages of the 28mm Wide-angle Lens*
The 28mm wide-angle lens* lets you easily capture large groups of people indoors or expansive architectural structures and scenes with dynamic width and rich perspective, even from short distances.

The entire structure in the background fits in, even when taken from a short distance.
The 28mm wide-angle lens* is convenient for shooting expansive structure.
* Converted to standard 35mm film camera equivalent, at the maximum wide position.
4.6x Optical Zoom and Up to 9.1x Extra Optical Zoom*1
The DMC-TS1(FT1) is equipped with a 4.6x optical zoom lens (35mm film camera equivalent: 28-128mm). The Extra Optical Zoom function uses the center part of the CCD to extend this 4.6x zoom ratio to powerful 9.1x zoom (35mm film camera equivalent: 250mm) at a resolution of 3-megapixel or less. Adding the Extra Optical Zoom to the 4x digital zoom*2 extends the total zooming power to a maximum of 36.3x.
*1 At a resolution of 3-megapixel or less. In the U.S.A. market, the Extra Optical Zoom is called the Extended Optical Zoom.
*2 As digital magnification increases, resolution significantly decreases.
1/2.33-inch 12.1-megapixel High-resolution CCD

The DMC-TS1(FT1) features a 1/2.33-inch CCD with effective 12.1-megapixel high-resolution.
What You Get with 12.1-megapixel Resolution
Images remain clear and sharp even when they are enlarged to A2 size (594 x 420 mm). An A2 photo is large enough to show a newborn baby or the head and chest of an adult in actual size. Photos in ordinary sizes (127 mm x 89 mm or 178 mm x 127 mm) come out beautifully at 3 megapixels. You can trim the photos any way you want.

Even 8-megapixel resolution provides sufficiently high-quality photos.

Trimming half of the image produces 6-megapixel resolution.

Trimming down to 1/4 of the image still results in 3-megapixel resolution, which is plenty for ordinary 4" x 6" prints.
Venus Engine HD
![]()

The high-speed, high-performance Venus Engine HD has been re-engineered to support the recording of beautiful, high-definition motion images in AVCHD Lite. With its twin CPUs, Venus Engine HD boasts approx. 2.4x processing speed, greatly improving the speed of camera operations. This high performance LSI elevates the artificial intelligence of the camera by introducing new circuitry making it possible to "recognize" human faces individually. It also supports high definition output through HDMI.
Higher Image Quality with Advanced Signal Processing

Luminance noise and chromatic noise are reduced separately in a Panasonic’s advanced noise reduction system. In addition, the Venus Engine HD enhances this detection by effectively reducing highly noticeable low-frequency chromatic noise in advance, while delicately applying noise reduction (NR) processing to detailed areas to prevent the color bleeding that often happens when NR is used. As a result, beautiful images with minimal noise can be reproduced all the way up to ISO 1600 high sensitivity at full resolution while color noise is less noticeable in shadows and other dark areas even when shooting with low sensitivity.
High Speed Response
The DMC-TS1(FT1) slashes the release time lag to around 0.005 second minimum. This makes DMC-TS1(FT1) an extremely quick, responsive camera. It lets you capture images comfortably even at a moment's notice and is a pleasure to use.
MEGA Burst Consecutive Shooting in Full Resolution
The DMC-TS1(FT1) lets you snap off consecutive shots at approx. 2.3 frames per second*1 in full resolution. The Unlimited*2 Consecutive Shooting function lets you keep on shooting until the memory card is full. You can take a series of shots, then choose the one you like best and delete the rest. You can also select High-speed Burst Mode*3 or Flash Burst Mode*3 from Scene Mode.
*1 Maximum of 5 images in Standard mode and 3 images in Fine mode.
*2 The consecutive shooting speed varies depending on the memory card. The number of recordable picture depends on the memory card size, battery life, picture size, and compression.
*3 In 3-megapixel (4:3), 2.5-megapixel (3:2), 2-megapixel (16:9) recording.
* The burst speed values given above apply when the shutter speed is 1/60 or faster and when the flash is not activated. The number of recordable picture depends on the memory card size and battery life. The burst speed is constant regardless of the transfer speed of the card.
* The number of recordable picture depends on the memory card size and battery life.
Low Energy Consumption – Long Battery Life
Despite the highly-loaded motion image processing of AVCHD Lite, the Venus Engine HD consumes only 93% of the power utilized by the Venus Engine IV. This improvement works together with an efficient, rechargeable lithium-ion battery to achieve a longer battery life of approx. 340 pictures on a single charge*.
* Based on the CIPA standard.
ID–Security Li-ion Battery
The DMC-TS1(FT1) comes with a function to check whether the battery and unit can be safely used together. •Batteries made by other companies which have been certified by Panasonic may be used with these units, but we offer no guarantee as to the quality, performance or safety of such batteries. •Exercise care when purchasing batteries. Many fake or imitation batteries have been found among those sold at unusually low prices and those which customers cannot check for themselves before purchasing. •Please confirm the latest information about batteries on the following website.
