25mm Ultra Wide-angle 12x Optical Zoom LEICA DC Lens

25mm Ultra Wide-angle 12x Optical Zoom LEICA DC Lens

New

The DMC-ZS3(TZ7) is the world's smallest* digital camera with 12x optical zoom featuring 25mm ultra wide-angle** f/3.3-4.9 LEICA DC VARIO-ELMAR lens. Incorporating Panasonic's advanced optical technologies, this lens system is comprised of 10 elements in 8 groups, with 2 ED (Extra Low Dispersion) lenses and 2 aspherical lenses / 3 aspherical surfaces while preserving compactness. This lens system enables a remarkable 25 to 300mm range of focal lengths in this compact body. The powerful zoom of the DMC-ZS3(TZ7) can be freely controlled even when shooting motion images. Inheriting the fine rendering and outstanding quality of the LEICA ELMAR lens, this easy-to-carry camera delivers beautiful pictures any time, any place.

* As of 27 January, 2009
** Converted to standard 35mm film camera equivalent, at the maximum wide position.

Powerful 12x Optical Zoom and Up to 21.4x Extra Optical Zoom*1

New

The 12x optical zoom (35mm film camera equivalent: 300mm) lets you capture dynamic images of sports action, animals in nature, and any subject that you can't get close to. Plus, the Extra Optical Zoom uses the center of the CCD to further extend the powerful 12x optical zoom when a resolution of less than 10.1-megapixel is used. This extends the zoom ratio up to 21.4x (35mm film camera equivalent: 535mm) for images with 3-megapixel resolution or less. Adding the Extra Optical Zoom to the 4x digital zoom*2 extends the total zooming power to a maximum of 85.5x.

*1 At a resolution of 3-megapixel or less. In the U.S.A. market, the Extra Optical Zoom is called the Extended Optical Zoom.
*2 As digital magnification increases, resolution significantly decreases.

Zoom Speed – 2 Step
This function allows you to control the zoom operation in two speeds, Low and Fast, with the zoom lever. Rotate the lever a small amount for slow zooming, and a larger amount for high-speed zooming. This makes it easy to zoom in and out quickly when you need to, or to slow down for finer zooming control.

Zoom Resume
The Zoom Resume function lets you decide on your composition before you shoot, so you can be prepared for sudden opportunities like a grand opening event or a photo of birds in the wild. It stores the zoom position (magnification) in memory, so you can shoot with the same zoom setting once the power is turned on again. This helps to make sure you don't miss those great spur-of-the-moment shots.

Focus Range Display
The allowable shooting range is displayed above the zoom bar. This lets you readjust the distance between the camera and the subject to shoot sharp, clear pictures.

The 12x Optical Zoom Keeps the Subject Sharp
While Giving the Background a Soft Focus

The DMC-ZS3(TZ7) takes advantage of their 12x optical zoom (35mm film camera equivalent: 300mm) . You can snap photos that capture the subject in a clear, sharp focus while giving the background a beautiful soft focus.

About Twice the Shooting Area - Advantages of the 25mm Wide-angle Lens*

New

The 25mm ultra wide-angle lens* provides extra convenience in all shooting situations, like when you're photographing a group of people at a party indoors or shooting a magnificent structure or scene while traveling.

The entire structure in the background fits in, even when taken from a short distance.

Standard 35mm

Landscapes spread far and wide from the window.

* Converted to standard 35mm film camera equivalent, at the maximum wide position.

10.1-megapixel with 1/2.33-inch CCD
Multiple Aspect Ratios / Multi Aspect Mode*1

The DMC-ZS3(TZ7) features a large 1/2.33-inch CCD. Conventional cameras generally use almost the entire CCD area when recording an image. The DMC-ZS3(TZ7), however, employs a 1/2.33-inch CCD with a total resolution of 12.7-megapixel. Using only about a 10.1-megapixel area of this large CCD makes it possible to give all three aspect ratios — 16:9, 3:2, and 4:3 — the same angle of view with lens settings from 25mm to 300mm*2. And rather than digitally producing "simulated" images, the DMC-ZS3(TZ7) captures the actual, real-life image for each one of the aspect ratios at the ultra wide 25mm setting. Plus, the Multi-Aspect Mode*1 lets the camera take an image in all three aspect ratios simultaneously, so you can choose the best one after shooting.

*1 The image quality will be automatically changed to Standard Mode.
*2 35mm film camera equivalent.

Venus Engine HD

New

The high-speed, high-performance Venus Engine HD has been re-engineered to support the recording of beautiful, high-definition motion images in AVCHD Lite. With its twin CPUs, Venus Engine HD boasts approx. 2.4x processing speed, greatly improving the speed of camera operations. This high performance LSI elevates the artificial intelligence of the camera by introducing new circuitry making it possible to "recognize" human faces individually. It also supports high definition output through HDMI.

Higher Image Quality with Advanced Signal Processing

Luminance noise and chromatic noise are reduced separately in a Panasonic’s advanced noise reduction system. In addition, the Venus Engine HD enhances this detection by effectively reducing highly noticeable low-frequency chromatic noise in advance, while delicately applying noise reduction (NR) processing to detailed areas to prevent the color bleeding that often happens when NR is used. As a result, beautiful images with minimal noise can be reproduced all the way up to ISO 1600 high sensitivity at full resolution while color noise is less noticeable in shadows and other dark areas even when shooting with low sensitivity.

High Speed Response

The DMC-ZS3(TZ7) slashes the release time lag to around 0.006 second minimum. This makes DMC-ZS3(TZ7) an extremely quick, responsive camera. It lets you capture images comfortably even at a moment's notice and is a pleasure to use.

MEGA Burst Consecutive Shooting in Full Resolution

The DMC-ZS3(TZ7) lets you snap off consecutive shots at approx. 2.3 frames per second*1 in full resolution. The Unlimited*2 Consecutive Shooting function lets you keep on shooting until the memory card is full. You can take a series of shots, then choose the one you like best and delete the rest. You can also select High-speed Burst Mode*3 or Flash Burst Mode*3 from Scene Mode.

*1 Maximum of 5 images in Standard mode and 3 images in Fine mode.
*2 The consecutive shooting speed varies depending on the memory card. The number of recordable picture depends on the memory card size, battery life, picture size, and compression.
*3 In 3-megapixel (4:3), 2.5-megapixel (3:2), 2-megapixel (16:9) recording.

Full Resolution

* The burst speed values given above apply when the shutter speed is 1/60 or faster and when the flash is not activated. The number of recordable picture depends on the memory card size and battery life. The burst speed is constant regardless of the transfer speed of the card.

Scene Mode - High-speed Burst Mode, Flash Burst Mode

* The number of recordable picture depends on the memory card size and battery life.

Low Energy Consumption – Long Battery Life

Advanced

Despite the highly-loaded motion image processing of AVCHD Lite, the Venus Engine HD consumes only 93% of the power utilized by the Venus Engine IV. This improvement works together with an efficient, rechargeable lithium-ion battery to achieve a longer battery life of approx. 300 pictures on a single charge*.

* Based on the CIPA standard.
