If you've resisted buying a digital SLR because you think it's hard to use, your wait is over. The DMC-GF3 features the same iA (Intelligent Auto) Mode*1 as the LUMIX compact models. The iA Mode supports easy shooting with automatic optimization according to the scenes.
In addition, the new iA Plus Mode enables you to adjust defocusing area, exposure compensation and white balance by just moving the slider with your finger.
The range of defocus can be adjusted to match your needs.
You can adjust the exposure compensation accurately and easily.
You can adjust the white balance from warm red to cool blue.
The POWER O.I.S. and MEGA O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) that's built into Micro Four Thirds lenses detects and compensates for blurring caused by hand-shake. So, you can get sharp, clear shots every time you shoot.
The Face Recognition function remembers faces that have been registered in the camera and provides the faces with optimal focus and exposure.
The Face Detection function detects faces anywhere in the frame and automatically chooses the optimal focus and exposure. The Face Detection also features the Digital Red-eye Correction (Red-eye Removal)*5.
Once you focus on your subject, the AF Tracking automatically and continuously tracks it and keeps it in focus and proper exposure.
The Intelligent ISO Control function detects subject movement and automatically adjusts the ISO setting and shutter speed to best suit the movement and light conditions.
The Intelligent Scene Selector senses the ambient conditions and automatically selects any of the Scenery, Portrait, Macro*6, Night Portrait*7, Night Scenery or Sunset Mode accordingly*8.
Once the subject is touched, the camera judges the optimal settings and automatically switches to the appropriate shooting mode.
The Intelligent D-range Control offers natural looking by optimizing the exposure for each part of an image, preventing blocked shadows and blown highlights and helping ensure that gradation and details are reproduced beautifully including the blue color of the sky.
Apart from the uniform enhancement of sharpness, the innovative technology Intelligent Resolution precisely performs signal processing pixel by pixel in the most effective way according to the area. As a result, images are naturally clear and crisp.
*1 Some functions in the iA Mode will not be available depending on the lens that is mounted. Turn on the lens' O.I.S. switch before using. *4 Turn the Face Recognition item ON and register the person with full-face portrait on the shooting menu in advance. Recognition performance varies greatly depending on shooting conditions, i.e., according to factors such as angles, facial expression and lighting, so operation under all conditions cannot be guaranteed. Because the camera searches for faces that are similar to registered faces, there are cases where the faces are not correctly recognized when the registered image and the shooting image vary much. When facial characteristics are similar, particularly between parents and their children or brothers and sisters, the camera may not distinguish the faces. *5 The Digital Red-eye Correction must be turned ON in the menu prior to use. *6 The focal range varies depending on the lens. *7 In the iA Mode, the Night Portrait is not identified when the flash is turned off. *8 With some subject and shooting conditions, it is just not possible to judge the best shooting details. When this happens, it is recommended that you shoot with the Scene Mode that best suits your purpose.
To elevate its operability even higher, the DMC-GF3 adopts touch-control shooting. You can operate the auto focus and shutter release at the same time with just a touch, for a completely new way to shoot.
Plus, in the Custom setting, you can set ON/OFF of each touch control such as touch shutter and touch AF, making the camera more comfortable to operate.
You can operate the auto focus and shutter release at the same time with just a touch. This kind of intuitive touch operation lets you easily catch even fast-action sports shots where your subject is on the move. It also makes it easy to capture decisive moments with optimal framing and settings.
With the DMC-GF3, auto focus can be set at any part of the frame by simply touching the subject on the LCD. This lets you frame your shot easily and accurately. The touch AF can be activated even in video recording.
The touch-screen operation excels not only for shooting but also for playing back images with outstanding visibility. You can drag the image across the screen with a finger to browse a collection of photos as you flip over the pages of the book.
The 12/30 Multi Display shows you images in a small thumbnail format. The DMC-GF3 makes it smooth and easy to find the exact shot you want even from a large number of thumbnail images.
The Zoom Playback has become even more convenient. By simply touching the part to be enlarged, you can zoom in as much as max. 16x. The zoom area can be dragged in any of four directions for speedy and precise confirmation.
Frequently used functions can be quickly retrieved and easily switched by touching the Q.MENU. In addition, the DMC-GF3 lets you arrange the Q.MENU to your liking by simply dragging and dropping icons into position.
The DMC-GF3 has a 3.0-inch 3:2 460,000-dot LCD with a 100% field of view. And a wide-viewing angle that lets you frame your shot in a variety of ways for both shooting and viewing. LUMIX's acclaimed Intelligent LCD function also automatically adjusts the brightness in 11 steps according to shooting conditions. It lets you share the fun of viewing images with family and friends, too.

If dust or other foreign matter gets inside the camera when you're changing lenses, it could cling to the image sensor and show up as a spot in your photos. The Dust Reduction System in the DMC-GF3 helps eliminate this possibility by placing the Supersonic Wave Filter in front of the Live MOS sensor, between the low-pass filter and shutter. Vibrating vertically around 80,000 times per second, the filter repels dust and other particles effectively.

1. Power off.
2. When the camera is turned on, the filter vibrates to shake off dirt and dust.
3. The dirt and dust adhere to the absorption part to prevent it from appearing in the sensor image.
