The CREATIVE HD HYBRID with DSLR Photo Quality and Full-HD Movie Full-HD Movie Recording in AVCHD

With the DMC-GH1, shooting incredible photos is only part of the fun. You can also shoot beautiful, richly detailed movies in full-HD (high definition) at 1080/24p, or smooth HD movies at 720/60p in AVCHD format (MPEG-4/H.264)*1 with a Continuous AF/AE function*2. A newly developed 12.1-megapixel Live MOS sensor with high-speed readout teams up with the Venus Engine to produce a “CREATIVE HD HYBRID” digital interchangeable lens camera that captures high-definition motion images while housing a host of functions that accurately reflect the photographer's intent.
AVCHD (Advanced Video Codec High Definition) is a practical format exclusively developed for recording high-definition motion images. Compared to Motion JPEG, which records the full information of every frame to make a sequence of still images, AVCHD records motion images with highly efficient compression optimized exclusively for motion image recording. As a result, movies that are almost twice as long as previous LUMIX movies can be recorded in stunning HD beauty.

* The movie is optimized for web view by file conversion.

*1 Full-HD (1920 × 1080) movies are output by the image sensor at 24p (NTSC) / 25p (PAL), and recorded at 60i (NTSC) / 50i (PAL). HD (1280 × 720) movies are output and recorded by the image sensor at 60p (NTSC) / 50p (PAL).

*2 The Continuous AF/AE function can be used with all LUMIX G lenses* but cannot be used with other lenses.

* Firmware update is required depending on the lens. Please see details

*3 Approx. When using the LCD with LUMIX G VARIO HD 14-140mm / F4.0-5.8 ASPH./ MEGA O.I.S. or LUMIX G VARIO 14-45 mm / F3.5-5.6 ASPH. / MEGA O.I.S.
Maximum recording time, HD movie recording at 720P.
For Europe, motion pictures can be recorded continuously for up to 29 minutes 59 seconds. The maximum continuous recording time (up to 29 minutes 59 seconds) is displayed on the screen.
*4 QuickTime Motion JPEG. The length of recording time depends on the capacity of the SDHC/SD Memory Card. (Up to the equivalent of 2 GB per motion-picture recording.)
*5 These are standard times taken at a temperature of 23°C(73.4°F) and a humidity of 50%RH.
The time available for recording varies depending on the environment, the interval between recordings, and the manner of use.
Actual recordable time is the time available for recording when repeating actions such as switching the power supply [ON]/[OFF], starting/stopping recording, zoom operation etc.

High-Quality Sound

A stereo microphone, featuring Dolby® Digital Stereo Creator, on the DMC-GH1's upper body records dynamic, true-to-life stereo audio that brings out the power of your HD movies. There is also a Wind Cut function that reduces noise on breezy days.

Motion Picture Button

Motion image recording can be started by pressing a dedicated button on the camera's back panel — an extremely quick, convenient way to start movie recording.

Enjoy the Freedom of Manual Settings Creative Movie Mode

Film Mode

Film Mode can be used even when shooting movies. Choose from 6 types for color, and 3 for black & white. By matching them to your subject and surroundings, you get the unique expressions that you're after.

The DMC-GH1 gives you more creative freedom. It lets you adjust the shutter speed and aperture any way you like when shooting movies. Because the image sensor of this digital interchangeable lens camera is larger than that in ordinary video cameras, it lets you capture movies with a delicate soft focus. This gives you a wider range of expressive possibilities to explore in your movie making. Of course, your range of shooting is further expanded by using interchangeable lenses, which is the DMC-GH1's main feature.

Shutter Speed Control

Stunning images such as sports car racing or sprays of water droplets can be frozen in slow motion.

Aperture Control

Motion images with a gentle soft focus can be captured because the image sensor is larger than that in an ordinary camcorder.

New High-Performance Kit Lens for Outstanding HD Movies LUMIX G VARIO HD 14-140mm / F4.0-5.8 ASPH. / MEGA O.I.S.

The DMC-GH1 kit is proudly equipped with the LUMIX G VARIO HD 14-140mm / F4.0-5.8 ASPH. / MEGA O.I.S. lens*. This compact lens supports a Continuous AF/AE function that works for both photos and movies. Thanks to a silence design that helps suppress lens drive noise, the DMC-GH1 records sounds in greater clarity with its new kit lens than with conventional interchangeable lenses. The DMC-GH1’s advanced kit lens also incorporates MEGA O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) that helps eliminate blurring from hand-shake.

* The Continuous AF/AE function can be used with all LUMIX G lenses* but cannot be used with other lenses.

* Firmware update is required depending on the lens. Please see details
http://panasonic.net/avc/lumix/systemcamera/gms/lens/index.html

Also, when using any lens other than the LUMIX G VARIO HD 14-140mm / F4.0-5.8 ASPH. / MEGA O.I.S. (H-VS014140) to shoot movies, the operating sound of the auto focus may be recorded depending on the shooting condition.

Versatile Movies That Only an Interchangeable Lens Camera Can Produce

The large image sensor lets you shoot beautiful movies with softly focused backgrounds.

Even everyday scenes have a new and different appearance when captured with a wide-angle lens.

Freely moving animals can be easily recorded with a sharp, crisp focus with Continuous AF/AE.

The telephoto lens lets you zoom in on birds and animals to catch highly natural expressions.

Try some dynamic shooting angles with the free-angle LCD and ultra wide-angle lens.

Use any of the interchangeable Four Thirds lenses to capture even more unique expressions.

*1 All movies are optimized for web view by file conversion.
*2 Some movies have sounds.

Beautiful HD Movies with Point-and-Shoot Ease iA (Intelligent Auto) Movie

Now on the DMC-GH1, the iA (Intelligent Auto) Mode is also available in movie image recording. iA Mode automatically and simultaneously activates 4 advanced detection functions: MEGA O.I.S. to detect hand-shake, Face Detection AF/AE to detect faces in the frame, Intelligent Scene Selector to detect scene conditions, and Intelligent Exposure to detect the ambient light. Since the camera automatically optimizes the settings, it lets you shoot stunning HD movies every time.

Shake Detection MEGA O.I.S.
MEGA O.I.S. OFFMEGA O.I.S. ON

Gyrosensors detect hand-shaking and the O.I.S. lens shifts to compensate, helping to prevent blurring caused by hand-shaking.

Face Detection Face Detection AF/AE
Face Detection AF/AE OFFFace Detection AF/AE ON

The Face Detection function detects faces anywhere in the frame and automatically chooses the optimal focus and exposure. It detects a maximum of 15 faces at once, and automatically readjusts the settings if their positions change.

Scene Detection*2 Intelligent Scene Selector

The Intelligent Scene Selector senses the ambient conditions and automatically selects either the Scenery, Portrait, Macro, or Low Light Mode accordingly.

Light Detection Intelligent Exposure
Intelligent Exposure OFFIntelligent Exposure ON

By detecting the intensity of the ambient light and adjusting the exposure accordingly, Intelligent Exposure prevents blown highlights and blocked shadows.

*1 Some functions in iA Mode will not be available depending on the lens that is mounted.
*2 With some subject and shooting conditions, it is just not possible to judge the best shooting details. When this happens, it is recommended that you shoot with the Scene Mode that best suits your purpose.

Easily View Photos and Movies on an HDTV HDMI Compatibility / VIERA Link
