Higher Response and Greater Precision Light Speed AF

The DMC-GH3 features ultra-high-speed Light Speed AF makes it possible to capture even the fast-moving subject clearly. Not only the accuracy but also the speed excels by far than the high-end DSLRs with phase-difference AF with the advanced contrast AF system of the DMC-GH3. The camera and the lens exchange the digital signal at max. 240 fps to minimize the time to focus.
Together with the quick start-up and short release time lag, the DMC-GH3 never lets photographers miss fleeting shooting opportunities.

More Accurate and Faster than Phase-difference AF Contrast AF System

Compared with the phase-difference system AF, the contrast AF of the DMC-GH3 boasts higher accuracy even in shooting at small F value.
The phase-difference AF system is susceptible to mechanical margin of error. However, in the contrast AF system, focusing is controlled by the image sensor so that no mechanical margin of error occurs to achieve precise focusing.

Flexible Framing Not Limited to Measurement Points A Variety of AF Modes

Contrast AF system* gives the DMC-GH3 a variety of AF setting. You can quickly change the focus setting with the focus mode lever and the AF mode button.

* Lenses that are not compatible with the contrast AF function can be used with manual focusing.

Full-area Focusing with Touch AF

The DMC-GH3 incorporates full-area focusing which makes it possible to set focus on any point in the field of view. Frame composition is free and intuitive combining the touch-screen operation.

Pinpoint AF

The Pinpoint AF function allows more precise focus setting by further enlarging the focusing area. It assists, for example, setting focus right on the pupil in an eye.

1-area AF

This mode lets you freely set the AF area and the size of the focusing frame.

23-area AF

When you select one of the groups from 9 groups, the camera automatically selects the optimal area from that group.

AF Tracking

AF tracking automatically maintains the focus and exposure of a moving subject.

1-area AF in Face Detection

This mode will point the auto focus to a selected location while detecting faces in the image.

AFF Mode

The AFF (AF Flexible) mode locks on the focus when shutter button is half-pressed, however, if the subject moves, the focusing is reset to get the best results.

MF Assist

You can enlarge the part by just a touch to select 4x, 5x or 10x and smoothly move the part by dragging it on the screen. The 4x enlarged view is displayed on the framing screen making it possible to set fine focus while composing the whole picture at the same time.

AF+MF Function

The AF+MF function provides more efficient, more precise focusing. After focusing with AF, simply turn the focus ring manually for even finer control.

AF Performance in Video Recording

A Versatile Consecutive Mode to Match Your Shooting Intent 6 fps Burst Shooting with 16.05-megapixel Full-resolution

The DMC-GH3 captures moving subject clearly with the burst shooting at 6 fps in full resolution (max. 18 consecutive shots of RAW+JPEG). It is great for capturing fast subject motion, such as sports scenes or birds in flight. You can take a series of shots, then choose the ones you like the best and delete the rest.

20 fps Super High-speed Burst Shooting

Even higher-speed burst shooting is possible with the DMC-GH3 when the electronic shutter is used.

*1 Depending on the recording conditions, the number of frames in a burst may be reduced. (For example, when [i.Resolution] of the recording menu is set to [EXTENDED], the number of frames in a burst may be reduced).
*2 Pictures can be taken until the capacity of the card becomes full. However the burst speed will become slower halfway. The exact timing of this depends on the aspect ratio, the picture size, the setting for the quality and the type of card used.

High-speed Data Transfer

The compatibility with the UHS-I (Ultra High Speed) SDXC/SDHC Memory Card lets you transfer your valuable shooting data at lightning fast speeds.
