The world's largest* annual production capacity of more than 23.52 million units to be achieved in 2010.

In July 2007, the construction of Panasonic's fourth plasma display panel plant (Amagasaki 2) was completed in Amagasaki, Japan. This plant will augment the company's existing production capability of 5.5 million units per year by a total of four plants — three domestic plants and one overseas plant in Shanghai, China. When it enters operation in 2008, Plant No. 4 will boost the annual production capability to 11.5 million units.
Furthermore, a fifth plasma display plant with twice the production capacity of Plant No. 4 will also be constructed. It is scheduled to start operation in May 2009. When Plant No. 5 enters full-scale operation in 2010, we will be producing 23.52 million plasma TVs a year. We expect the worldwide demand for plasma display panels to reach 300 million annually in 2010. With its outstanding plasma display panel production capability, we continues to remain as a leader in global markets for large-screen flat-panel TVs. To provide maximum customer satisfaction, we continuously strives to manufacture products that are superior in production efficiency and cost competitiveness.

Technologies for Attaining Remarkable Productivity

Production Lines

The base material is a large sheet of glass that is taller than a person. Once the glass enters the line, it is printed, dried, exposed to light, developed, and baked to form electrodes and other components. In the final stage, front and back sheets are bonded to create a panel.

Multi-Panel Technology

A unique feature of the Amagasaki Plant is its "multi-panel technology," which makes it possible to produce six 42-inch panels simultaneously from a single sheet of glass. This technology significantly contributes to the improvement of productivity.

Ecological Plant Facilities

Panasonic is gentle to the environment. In our newest plant, we have incorporated a host of environment-friendly technologies in order to achieve a balance with nature.

Photocatalytic Coatings

Wall painted with a photocatalytic coating.

The external walls of this huge building are painted in glossy white, using a special photocatalytic coating. The coating protects buildings that are located near seacoasts from degradation due to dust and dirt, and keeps it beautiful. The coating also has a nitrogen oxide (NOx) reducing effect equivalent to 1,800 poplar trees.

Environmental Considerations

Wind Gull

Using rainwater.

This "Wind Gull," which is located on the plant site, is a hybrid generator that uses both solar energy and wind power to generate electricity. The Wind Gull supplies electric power to the outdoor lights at the plant. Also, the water sprinklers for the plants and trees on the grounds use rainwater stored in a tank instead of tap water.

PDP Global Production Strategy

Panel production concentrated in Japan for efficiency.
Assembly done locally for prompt, flexible supply.

LCD Production Strategy

IPS Alpha panels, which are characterized by their wide viewing angle, are produced by IPS Alpha Technology, Ltd. Panasonic's VIERA LCD uses IPS Alpha panels supplied by IPS Alpha Technology to produce high-quality images with natural, lifelike beauty regardless of the viewing angle.
