Resource Conservation
At Panasonic, we are seeking to improve the resource efficiency of our products, and to use less material in their production. Our aim is to reduce resource consumption through product down-sizing and weight reduction. We are also trying to reduce the ratio of non-circulating (i.e non-recyclable) materials over the entire product life cycle. Our intention is to achieve these aims by improved product design, and increasing use of recycled and recyclable resources. This in turn entails the development of more recycling-oriented products. We monitor the resource conservation of every product during development.
When we compare the reduced product weights of the 30 major products sold in Japan in fiscal year 2007 with the equivalent products weights in 2006, a resource equivalent to 18,600 tons was achieved.

Use of recycled plastics
Panasonic is one of the leading companies to use recycled plastics. Environmental Technology Solutions Co., Ltd., which Panasonic established, distributes recycled resin from four home appliance products. Panasonic uses some of the recycled resin in its products. In fiscal 2007, we used 3,000 tons of recycled resin mainly in washing machines and refrigerators.
