Our Approach to Chemicals Management in Products and Factories

Our founder, Konosuke Matsushita established our Basic Business Philosophy and Seven Principles which underpin every action of Panasonic, and are the basis of our Code Of Conduct.

The code is implemented across our entire business life cycle, including Research & Development (R&D), where it states,

"Through research and development we aim to achieve a better future. At the same time, we will try to prevent our technologies from being used in any way that might jeopardise the global environment, world peace, social justice or humanitarian activities."

On the issue of Coexistence with the Global Environment, we promise that, "By setting appropriate goals based on prior assessments of environmental risks and impacts, we will pursue ever-higher environmental achievements."

On the matter of product safety, our code states that, "We will give the utmost priority to product safety in all design, development, manufacturing and marketing and sales activities...".

Additionally, we have our "Environmental Vision" which states that "Products and services are to be made with only environmentally-conscious materials through the efficient use of energy and resources".

Being environmentally-conscious means aiming for improvement by decreasing environmental impact by all means, and this also includes Chemicals. Therefore, naturally we have to avoid as much as possible any chemicals that are considered to have a negative impact on the environment.

Precautionary Principle

The Precautionary Principle is imbedded within the values, principles & requirements outlined in our Code of Conduct. Therefore, Panasonic endorses the Precautionary Principle as referred to in the 1992 Rio Declaration.

Indeed we believe that our ethical Code of Conduct goes beyond the basics of the Precautionary Principle.
