Panasonic Announces ‘eco ideas’ Declaration in Middle East and Africa
On 19 October 2010, Panasonic Marketing Middle East FZE (PMM) today announced the ‘eco ideas’ Declaration for the Middle East and Africa region at GITEX, the region’s premier IT exhibition.
By adopting the declaration, Panasonic aims to become the No. 1 Green Innovation Company in the Electronics Industry in Middle East as part of its group-wide global commitment to drive eco-innovation by 2018, the 100th anniversary of its foundation.
To achieve this goal, Panasonic is pursuing its ‘eco ideas’ for Lifestyles by promoting sustainable and comfortable green lifestyles as well as ‘eco ideas’ for Business-styles with aims to reduce the environmental impact of its operations to a maximum extent and spread technologies and ideas that are brought forth through such reduction efforts. Panasonic is combining these environmental efforts and business growth.
“Panasonic is strongly committed to conserving the environment. As a global leader in the electronics industry, it is our duty to ensure a sustainable future. We pledge to reduce CO2 emissions by 15 percent from our facility and double the sales of our industry-leading environmentally-conscious products in the region. We will also encourage Panasonic employees to lead conservation efforts in cooperation with the local communities,” commented Mr. Seiji Koyanagi, Managing Director of PMM.
The goals for Middle East and Africa under the declaration are as follows:
‘eco ideas’ for Lifestyles:
Panasonic aims to double the regional sales of Superior Green Products by March 2013. Superior Green Products, which have been internally certified by Panasonic, are those that have achieved the industry-leading environmental performance in terms of energy saving, effective utilization of resources and the management of chemical substances.
Panasonic aims to educate 100,000 of its customers in the next three years by celebrating Green day on the first Friday of every month at 30 of its exclusive showrooms in the Middle East. Furthermore, 14 showrooms across the region will be kitted out with Eco Kiosks.
Customers enrolled for Panasonic’s ‘Plus Card’ loyalty program and school children will be educated by the showroom staff and eco-booklets will also be made available. The aim of the program is to raise awareness on energy and water conservation, and waste management.
‘eco ideas’ for Business-styles:
- Scholarship to students of Abu Dhabi University
Panasonic will provide scholarship to two graduate students under the Environmental Science Bachelor Degree Program from UAE’s prestigious Abu Dhabi University. The scholarship program is aimed at encouraging local talent to take up environment studies and research in the region. - KWN program on environmental themes and the Eco Picture Dairy Contest
Kid Witness News (KWN) is a video-education program being conducted in 25 schools in the UAE in association with the Ministry of Education and continuously working on environmental themes. An ‘Eco Picture Diary Contest’ aimed at encouraging 6-12 year old children to learn more about protecting the environment has been launched by Panasonic Corporation globally and is being introduced in this region by PMM in UAE, KSA, Kuwait, Oman and Lebanon. - Earth Lunch Hour
Panasonic will also work on Earth Lunch Hour once every month, where all 176 employees from 20 different nationalities, will enjoy lunch which will be made of organic ingredients using energy efficient cooking method. Car pooling on that day will also ensure reducing CO2 emissions that will be used as an internal education and awareness of its eco-program. - LEEDS(Gold) and ISO14001
PMM seeks to cut CO2 emissions by 15 percent in its regional facility by March 2013 compared to the base level in a fiscal year ended in Mar 2010. PMM is also working to be LEEDS (Gold) and ISO 14001 certified by 2012.
