Panasonic’s exhibition theme for Eco-Products 2006 is “ECO & UD for your home.” Although since 1990, the number of Panasonic products and functions has increased by x1.2 and x1.4 respectively, CO2 emission has decreased to 60%. Hence, we have enhanced the quality of our lives while reducing the effect on the environment. Through home electronics, fixtures and equipment, building materials, and even housing (Pana Home), Panasonic will propose balancing the 2 themes, “ECO” focusing on energy conservation, and “UD” represented by usability for every corner of your home.

Let us take a look at “ECO & UD” through scenes we would experience in our everyday life. First, here is the convenient and energy saving “Rakuraku (Simple & Easy) Kitchen,” a versatile kitchen that enables you to cook and clean efficiently. With the system kitchen “FiTi,” you can cook and clean while seated. And the IH cooking heater is compatible with all types of metal pots and pans; now you can even use copper and aluminum pans. It is also energy efficient with proficient high heat efficiency that makes energy savings of about 20% possible.

The Top Unit Refrigerator is easy to use with a low waist-line - the refrigeration compartment most often used has been lowered by 9 cm - and the freezer is now 1.5 times bigger. And because its entirety is surrounded by a vacuum thermal insulation material with an excellent insulation performance, it traps the cool air within. The electric thermo pot, which uses twice the surface area, when compared to traditional models, of the same thermal insulation materials but with 20% more heat-insulation capabilities offers a long heat retention and energy saving. And what is more, once you have boiled the water, you can unplug it and use it anywhere you like.

We have introduced a few cases of energy conservation offered with our home electronic products; with these products, you will save about 37% or close to 28,000 yen annually in your kitchen. In addition, you will be able to efficiently cook and clean, so you will have more time for yourself to relax. Moreover, if you combine all the energy-saving effect from all electronic appliances in your living room and other areas in your house, you will see that approximately 120,000 yen worth of energy will be saved annually. This will lead to CO2 reduction and will also significantly contribute to slowing down global warming.

“ECO & UD” for our lives is not only limited within the home. Panasonic’s eco-products and services are also expanding to aspects of metropolises such as offices and automobiles. Panasonic not only continue to aspire towards balancing the 2 themes, “Improvement in quality of life” and “Reduction in environmental impact” but it has also establish a standard of “Factor X” based on this concept and will continue to apply this to our manufacturing.

Panasonic has completed an “Eco & Ud HOUSE” last year, which represents our concept of “ECO & UD for your home” we may find in the year 2010. This Eco & Ud HOUSE has reopened on December 17, 2006 after renovations with application of a more advanced IT technology and UD. Panasonic will continue to make efforts to decrease as much as possible the effect on the global environment, and to promote products and services that augment the quality of our lives from the perspective of “ECO & UD for your home.”
