What external switches or sensors do you recommend for connection to the External I/O? [External_IO]
(2006/03/16)

Answer... In general we recommend you to use switch-type sensors, such as door sensors (magnetic switches). When you use sensors other than switch-type sensors (which sense logic level output or open collector output), check the maximum ratings/electrical specifications of their input terminals. Make sure to select a sensor with maximum rating/electrical specifications that do not exceed the ratings of your Network Camera or sensors currently used.

There are two types of door sensors (NC or NO, explained below), and the settings for the signal (External Sensor Input) detected by the Network Camera will depend on which sensor you use.

*1: NC (Normally Closed)
The sensor is electrically closed (0 V) normally, and the sensor opens (high impedance) when triggered.

*2: NO (Normally Open)
The sensor is electrically open (high impedance) normally, and the sensor becomes closes (0 V) when triggered.

< Example >

Type of door sensor Door condition External Sensor Input Signal Alarm enable condition
NC “close” -› “open”   Rising: GND to Open (High), positive edge.
“open” -› “close”   Falling: Open (High) to GND, negative edge.
NO “close” -› “open”   Rising: GND to Open (High), positive edge.
“open” -› “close”   Falling: Open (High) to GND, negative edge.
