Motivation for Installation

Due to the accelerated expansion of global business, Panasonic has been seeking capable individuals who can demonstrate their abilities overseas and conduct various activities successfully in the global business world. However, it was difficult to communicate directly with employees working in other countries, and we were afraid that we could not express to the students how attractive, challenging and rewarding it is to work overseas. Therefore, for the "Global Challenger Forum," an event for recruiting students who will graduate from universities in 2012, we set up an HD Visual Communications System so that the students could talk and ask questions to our overseas employees in real time. The system was able to deliver the voices of the overseas employees directly to the students, successfully promoting Panasonic as a global company boasting superb technologies.

System Selection Points

We aimed to achieve two important objectives in these recruiting events. One was to promote the global activities of Panasonic and motivate students, especially those who wishing to work overseas, to seek employment at our company. The other objective was to have students experience the high resolution and real-time communication provided by the HD Visual Communications System, so we could also promote our advanced technologies to the students. We planned to achieve these objectives through real-time discussions and Q&A sessions with overseas employees using the HD Visual Communications System. The result was successful. The system became a popular topic of conversation and drew great interest from the students.

About 4,600 students who will graduate in March 2012 came to the events (held in Tokyo and Osaka).

Discussions and Q&A sessions were conducted in real-time by connecting the meeting room with an overseas base over the Internet.

Installation Effect

In actual use, the system had a greater impact on the students than we expected. I was very happy to see the students glued to the screen. The system allowed them to talk with overseas employees as if they were in the same room, and provided smooth communication without image disturbances or audio delays. We confirmed that the voices of overseas employees directly reaching the students had a very convincing effect when we saw the students' reactions. Since our employees did not have to move from place to place to talk with the students, we were able to hold the sessions efficiently and economically. As this leads to the kind of "Eco Recruiting" that is promoted by the Panasonic Group, we intend to actively use the HD Visual Communications System whenever possible. In the near future, we hope to hold a panel discussion by simultaneously connecting four different locations.
